Title: Mame-X Arcade Cabinet

Malakai - December 25, 2006 11:14 PM (GMT)
I've been considering converting an arcade cabinet to mame or console cabinet over the years, but it just takes a bunch of things to all click at the right time (Money, Mood to build and problem solve, and access to a cheap arcade cabinet all at the same time.)

No, I still haven't done it, although I have in the past made a test PC for such things, using psx controllers and even an x-arcade controller. The 950mhz system ran almost every thing just fine, with a few exceptions at the time. Like the 950mhz system, the xbox doesn't have the power to push all arcade roms either.

As you may have guessed, I modded my xbox. Can't even remember what mod I put in it, because it's been a few years, but it works great. There are several arcade, console, and portable emulators for the xbox out there, from the atari 2600 to the n64 (although I don't think the n64 emulator I tried was working at the time.)

Most people actually use old crap PCs for their emulators and mainly use them for classic games. So, the xbox should be more than enough to do the majority of what I'd want, with the exception of maybe some pc games.

What got me thinking about this again was that I ran across a centipede arcade the other day. I wanted to ask about it, even though it was missing the screen cover, bezel, marquee, and probably some other pieces. It's my guess that the system didn't work, and it really wouldn't have mattered to me, as long as the wood was in good shape.

Maybe they'll still have it in a few weeks when I'm out at the flea market again....If not, I guess it's not a huge loss, because I'd have to replace all of the missing stuff, as well as tear out and rebuild a new control panel, since trackball games aren't what I'm mainly interested in :/
