I finally got my powered subwoofer via UPS last night, in which they did like an 8:50pm delivery, surprisingly. I guess the holidays have some thing to do with the drivers working so late.
Any way, it's a sony 12" 150 watt subwoofer. Not top or the line or any thing, but one thing for sure: it rocks. I have tested some favorite scenes from several movies so far, like king kong, star wars phantom menace, daylight, terminator 2, and final destination 2. I really don't think any thing can top the long crash scene in Final Destination 2.
Any way, in the next week or so, my bipole speakers will arrive, and the 7.1 setup will be pretty much complete. I know not too many movies support 6.1 sound as of yet, but I can use dolby pro logic IIx to matrix the rear speakers in to 6.1.
I've got a custom made 8x10 DTS and Dolby Digital logo on the way as well.
The next thing to do is finish up my final speaker placement, get some lobby cards and a few posters and maybe even some authentic theater seating.
I've even got the Japanese phantom menace laser disc, one of the only 6.1 laser discs made. So, it'll be fun to try out a few movies when every thing is set up.
The subwoofer definately makes a difference. It can pick up a lot of low frequencies that the regular loudspeakers just can't do.
