do we really need another Rocky movie.
Steve - December 4, 2006 04:59 AM (GMT)
hahaha, Spaceballs.."Rocky 5..thousand"

Rocky was supposed to die in the fifth movie, the original ending was him basically getting killed in the street fight... why can't it just be over already, I'll admit I like Rocky as a character (early on, anyway), and I thought the first film was absolutely incredible... but I can't see how this HELPS the series and overall story in any way, shape or form.
It's sad, really... hopefully it won't turn out to be quite the shlock V turned out, but still, I don't know if I should go see it.

Well, the screen date has changed to tomorrow (dec 20th, 2006) - it looks like adian either is dead or dies in the early part of the movie... I'm not sure if she actually stars in the movie or if they just show some past clips or what..
stevec1636 - December 19, 2006 07:21 PM (GMT)
another words she didn't want to do another Rocky movie.
Steve - December 19, 2006 08:45 PM (GMT)
She is actually quite rich from her family...I did see her in a Geico commercial where she plays a therapist...Sly did an interview where he said this movie gives the series closure, I wonder if that means he dies in the ring like Apollo...I predict he goes the distance, but loses like part 1.
RetroYoungen - December 20, 2006 07:00 PM (GMT)
From the dialogue in the commercials I'd say he dies in this one, maybe from complications from the fight, I don't know. But with lines like "a fighter fights" and "it ain't over 'til it's over," and the one line he says to his corner man (who I think is his kid, seems most likely) about "I gotta go out like I got in" or SOMEthing like that... seems to lean towards finally ending the Italian Stallion.
I honestly do like the character, I just don't like how he's gotten to this point. The way this one is set up, at least in the commercials though... at least it SHOULD make up for Rocky V, maybe finally give the series the closure it desperately needs.
Hopefully.
But I'll probably go see it, so yeah. "Yer gonna eat lightnin', and yer gonna crrrr-ap thundeh! You're gonna be a very dangerous poy-sen!"

***WARNING POSSIBLE SPOILERS BELOW***
I have read two reviews about this one, and each one differ in how good the movie actually is. The first review said it was bad, while the 2nd review said it was good really did the series justice, the way they end it.
It seems like Adrian's death was heavily wrote in to the script and influenced many parts of the movie as well. She dies of cancer.
Adrian's Death rumor #1:
Talia Shire did not want any thing to do with the new rocky.
Adrian's Death rumor #2:
Talia Shire wanted to be in the new movie, but sly said that her being dead was the only way he could write rocky's fighting back in to the story.
Adrian's Death Rumor #3:
Talia Shire wanted to be in the movie but was not offered enough money. So, sly cut her out of the script.
Rumor ending #1:
I've also read a rumor that said that Rocky gets paralyzed after the last fight and he talks pauley in to killing him off at the end. (A La Million Dollar Baby.)
Rumor ending #2:
Rocky finds out tarver is the son of apollo creed and ends up purposely taking a dive.
Rumor ending #3:
Tarver breaks his hand during the fight and rocky wins.
Rumor about ending(s):
Sly filmed appx 4 different endings. Some people have said he did this, to have extras in the dvd box set when it comes out, but I believe (if it's true) it was to keep rumors at bay from people that worked on or around the rocky set (So they couldn't spread it to the masses.)
Wouldn't it be some thing if different theaters randomly got different rocky endings too?

Adrian is dead but maybe she is back in flashbacks. The premise is the he is helping his son become a boixer I believe. Sylvester Stalone said this will be the final Rocky and bring closure to the films.

Well, I'm probably going to see this movie today. So, we'll see how it is :/
Malakai - December 25, 2006 12:53 AM (GMT)
Well, I finally got to see this movie. There isn't much boxing in it, as sly says "The Rocky movies aren't really about boxing." - They just hide behind it I guess.
Spoilers below - don't read if you plan on watching the movie:
To address some of the previous rumors, Rocky does not die in the movie. The movie could not have been made (it wouldn't be the same) with Adrian still alive. He pretty much worships her in this movie, and there are flashbacks, pictures, several gravesite visits, and more. The restaraunt Rocky owns is also named after her. There are just too many things written in to the script to make me believe that sly ever would have wanted to cast her in this one.
Secondly, while tarver does break his hand in the rocky fight, he does not lose because of it. The ending was a split decision, with tarver barely getting the win.
To address another rumor, Rocky's son is not a boxer. He's some sort of business man in the movie, but feels the pressure of being the son of the great Rocky Balboa.
Well, what's this movie about? As you may have seen in the previews, there is a computer simulation of how the fight would have turned out if Rocky in his prime were to fight mason dixon (tarver) and it said that Rocky would have won. This got Rocky to think about fighting again, in small venues and such.
Tarver plays the current champion, which most people say that he was basically handed the title, due to his opponents not being good boxers. So, his manager shows up at Adrians (el restaraunte) to offer Rocky an exhibition fight between him and the champion.
Rocky gets a new interest (not sure if you could call it love interest) which is some one he crossed paths with in one of the previous rocky movies.
The movie itself is sort of sad and depressing. At Adrians, Rocky tells stories of old fights and takes pictures with other people. Unfortunately, Rocky acts as though his own stories don't have much oomph any more. He looks as if he's so tired of telling the same stories over and over again that he's going to fall asleep.
Paulie breaks down near the beginning, and Rocky breaks down slightly later on in the movie, and paulie ends of losing his job, which I suppose adds some drama to the story. After paulie loses his job, he asks Rocky to get the fight out of his system, to make it the last fight.
I've read several reviews of this movie on the net, and a lot of them say that it adds closure to the series. I've got mixed feelings about this, but I do know that after watching it, I don't think I'd want the series to continue on any more. Some people may disagree, but it wouldn't have hurt me if this movie just hadn't of come out at all.
