Title: PS3 Debuts in Japan

Malakai - November 11, 2006 03:29 PM (GMT)
Sony's PS3, plagued with technical problems, with release dates pushed back many times, has finally released their console in Japan. The downside? Only 100,000 systems have been made.

On Nov 17th, the United States release date, there will be a reported 400,000 consoles, while in Europe, the date has been pushed back to some time in March.

Many people have waited in line to get the PS3 system, and there are going to be a lot of disappointments when not every one will be able to get their hands on one before Christmas.

not when you have people who are going to buy it just to resell it on E-bay. I HATE those people.

I get to work the opening shift and sell PS3 consoles on release day. It should be hell... but I'll get to see the ugly side of gamers (we're expecting campers outside the store, and possibly fights too). I also get to work on the day the Wii is released, but I don't think AS many people will be outside waiting impatiently for one.

Though I dunno, I might be one of them.

I can't help but blame video game companies for the turn around and sell on ebay tactics, where people double or triple their investments overnight. There are some currently on ebay right now with $1200 and $1400 bids. This has been happening in the last 3 generations of video games at least.

You might as well say that the internet makes it much worse, because small local populations that got the systems in would probably have systems in stock for a longer period of time. In the end, you have a few gamers that pre-order and then every other person trying to make money on the the systems.

I'm actually surprised sony and other companies don't just release their new consoles on the internet for $2000 apiece a couple months before they release in stores for regular prices.

Keep us posted on the long lines, fights, camping out, etc
It is always interesting to hear about the launch of a system.
