With a few more effects+steps you can get something like this:

ok! lets start working on it.

1. Open up a new document, i chose 500x500.

2. Hit D on your keyboard to make the colors default. Hold shift so it makes a perfect circle with the Ellipse Tool (1 Tool below the text tool, right click it and choose the ellipse tool).

Make a circle, and once you let go it should turn black.

3. Rasterize your layer.

4. Grab your Magic Wand tool,

and click on the black circle.
(circle should be bordered with a flashing line)

5. Filter>render>clouds

6. Filter>Noise>Dust & Scratches
Settings:
Radius: In Mid-50's. I did 53.
ThreShold: In Mid 10's. i did 17.

7. Duplicate that layer 2 times.

8. On the Background layer (FIRST/Bottom Layer) Color black, make sure its filled black.

9. Now go to your Top layer, and do Ctrl+U check the colorize box, and make it a dark red color.

10. Filter>Texture>Mosaic Tiles
Settings:
Tile Size: 2
Grout Width: 15
Lighten Grout: 10

11. Now, on your 2nd to the top layer (SHould be your 3rd layer including background layer.) Do Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur
Settings:
Radius: 7.0

12. On the same layer that you did the gaussian blur, do ctrl+u and click the colorize box, and make it a yellow color.

13. Now go to your top layer (4th, including background..) right click>Blending options.

14. Inner Shadow.

16. Blending Options- Inner Glow
Settings: Do everything default, but make the color the same one you used in the outer glow so it makes it look soft and smooth... lol.

17. On your top layer (Red layer) Do Hard light, and on the 2nd to top layer (Yellow Layer) Do Linear Burn.

Your finally done!

well the thing is yes, planets deserve to die, the most horrid of deaths...stupid planets...and that white line in mine was just me trying to take a shot at making fault lines basically...or cracks from that meteor smashing the crap out of the planet

Yeah i kinda agree with Lust on this one, but I think it would help to use a nice set of Lighting Effects added to it. That would give the planets a light source so it doesn't look like they're giving off their own light. It's in my sig, and for all who've seen my Wallpaper in the Show off section, you'll see what i'm talking about.

Also, you can try to add another layer with some clouds that have been contrasted. Then, use liquify to swirl the clouds and make weather patterns and formations. The planets should also have more of a watery look if they have water. If not, make the outer glow on the planet have a more rusty rock look instead of an atmospheric look. The reason that the sky is blue is because it reflects the ocean's colors when the sun's light hits it. If there's no water on your planet, the atmosphere will be the same color as the planet.

I LOVE YOU TRIGGER!

FUCK PLANETES! if i make one.. im gonna piss on it.. Damn Big ROCK

Trigger863 - June 17, 2005 08:40 AM (GMT)
Here it is! My best planet is right here. The greatest part is that it took only like 20 minutes and looks at least halfway decent. Next to the one on my sig, wallpaper, and avatar, it is my favorite and best one. If you want to criticize, tell me what to do to fix it up. I would normally color balance it to add it to a sig, but for this forums' purposes, i will leave it normal color. Here you go. Oh and the white swirls are weather patterns, for all you who've never experienced a rainstorm or hurricane before.(i live in florida)

Lol thanks. My point that i was tryin to make was that even when you're doing graphics, thinking realistically enhances your drawings. Thank you.
