In this tutorial, you will learn how to make something that looks like an electricity bolt charging up.
My Results:

Open up Photoshop.
Open up a new document, i did 500x500.
1. Fill in your background w/ Black.
2. Filter>Render>LensFlare. I placed my lens flare tords the center.
3. Filter>Liquify. Make it look something like this:

4. Duplicate the Layer 2 times. (Ctrl+J)
5. On the top Layer, Which should be named Layer1 Copy, do Filter>Distort Twirl, With settings of 50.
6. On the layer below The top layer (Middle Layer) which should be named Layer 1, do Filter>Distort>Twirl w/ Settings of -50.
7. Add some Color to the top layer. Ctrl+U, Check the Colorize Box.
I used: Hue: 169, Saturation: 65, Lightness:-5
8. Now on the middle layer, do Filter>Sketch>Photocopy, default settings.
9. Now on the middle layer still, put the blending mode to either Overlay, or Linear Light.
10. On the top layer, put the blending mode to Lighten.
11. On the middle layer, go to Image>Adjustments>Selective Color
the middle layer should be greyish, so pick Neutrals. Now mess w/ the settings so it looks brighter then the original color.
Your done!
You should get end up w/ something like this:

If not, do this again, but liquify differently, or set the Twirl differently.
Hopefully it came out alright though.
