In this tut, you will learn how to make something like this:



K, now open up a new document... 500x500 works best. any other size thats square will work (300x300, 400x400 etc..)

Fill your background in with Black.


1. Ctrl+J Now place a Lens Flare (Filter>Render>Lens Flare) In the bottom left corner.

2. Ctrl+J again
(you should have 3 layers.)

3. Filter>render>Lens flare, but this time in the Top RIght corner

4. Go to your first duplicated layer, should be in the middle, and do Filter>Liquify.. Go crazy!

5. Now, go to your 3rd layer (Top Layer) And do Filter Liquify, do what you did before but in the opposite direction.

6. On your middle layer, do Filter>Distort>Twirl and i did 75

7. on the top layer, do filter distort twirl, but with -100

8. On the same layer, do Filter>Distort>Wave. Click Randomize a few times..

8.5Do Step 8 with the 2nd layer.

9. Now on the top layer, set the blending mode to Lighten or Linear Dodge. Either one do the same thing pretty much in this case...

10. Filter>SKetch>WaterPaper with
Settings:
Fiber Length: 15
Brightness: 60
Contrast: 80

11. Merge your layers. Ctrl+E

12. Lets add color to it now, because Lens Flares pink color isnt to pretty...
Ctrl+U and check the colorize box. I did an orange color with these
[SETTINGS]
Hue: 20
Saturation: 80
Lightness: 0


if you want your result to be multicolored, do these settings
Un-merge your layers, hit Alt+Ctrl+Z a few times so the color goes away, and the layers are NOT merged. You should still have the waterpaper effect there, just not merged..

K, on the top layer hit Ctrl+U, check Colorize.. do any color you want, i chose an Greenish/Blue color... Now on your middle layer, do Ctrl+U and use a diff color... i used An Orange/Red... Now, merge your layers and your finished!

I know this thread is kinda old so sorry.
I have photoshop version 6 so sometimes my results differ because i have to punt with some stuff, though, thankfully not this tutorial, this one was a really good tutorial, the effect is awesome.
Enough rambling tough, here is my finished product
