Title: Hdc

I just bought a 3-dr s-reg freelander, 1.8petrol, updated bumpers, headlights and alloys.
But there is no hill descent switch on the gearstick or anywhere, there is a hill descent light and traction control light on the dash, but these never light up. Should i have a switch?

Hi James,

Some models, particularly in the early days, didn't come with HDC and it sounds like yours is one of those.

The non-working lights on the dash will just be part of the standard instrument pack.

... and I think the base models didn;t have ABS or TC either.

Interestingly, Victoria & Julian had to switch of these gadgets in order to off road race their Freelanders. And it didn;t hold them back!

Cheers

Hello there.

Not meaning to boast but I have the XEDi which does have the toys but interestingly when I took mine for a play in a muddy pit a colleague commented on the way the brake lights were coming on shortly before I lost and then regained traction. When I aked why this was of relevance it turned out that he was an off road expert who said that those in the know apply gentle pressure to the brake pedle to remove excessive torque from the wheel that is spinning and effectively overide the differential. If you are gentle on then brake pedle it is very effective but if heavy footed can break half shafts in the gear box.

I was too proud to admit that it was the traction controll in charge of the braking and just said "oh yeh, who doesn't know about that!"

I hope this is of some comfort and ignore ryanj. He never takes his off road!!!!! Just enjoy youself!

Ta

Jim
