Title: Freelander Gs4 Type Roof Racks

steve dunne - March 25, 2009 11:55 AM (GMT)
Hello

I am thinking of setting up a Business in making freelander GS4 type roof racks please note the roof rack will run from back to front this would be for the Mk 1 freelander the roof rack would be made from 25mm mild steel and will have black powder coating

I am also looking into having some made in aluminum as well and would like some feedback about this before I put money in to this idea.
The roof racks will be made in batches of 10 at the moment I cannot give you a price of the roof racks but would like your feedback on this to see if there is a demand for this and would you be interested
Thank you for your time

Kind regards

Steve Dunne

Hi Steve

I like your idea of creating an alternative to the no-doubt excellent Brownchurch full length roofrack. I especially like the idea of making it out of Aluminium, just to save on the full burn of carrying a steel rack around if nothing else!

I've been looking at alternative roof racks for a little while now, trying to decide where to spend my money and I've come up with the following list:-

SAFETY DEVICES - full length
Outrack £495 + VAT

BROWNCHURCH - full length
91/NF/FR £271 + VAT

FAMOUS FOUR - 3/4 length
FF002771 Expedition Roof Rack £250
Fitting Kit £31

MM-4x4 1/2 length
Roof Tray £57 + VAT (fits on std bars)

SIMMONITES - 1/2 length
Roof Tray £115 (fits on std bars)

JOHN CRADDOCK 1400mm x 1500mm
DA3077 £399 + VAT

MONACAR 790mm x 1110mm x 90mm
GRR113 Parcel Tray £37.50 + VAT

Of this list I really like the Safety Devices rack, which I believe was the one used on the G4 Freelanders, but it's hellishly expensive to my mind, and my second favourite is the Brownchurch, although also not cheap!

I'd like to see what yours is going to look like if that's possible, and some idea of the cost naturally.

Hope you get lots of interest.

Regards

Les

Les, if you're after an aluminium rack you could also consider Hannibal Expedition equipment .............

Thanks for the info and pic - VERY pretty, very sturdy, very, VERY expensive!!

Devon4x4 sell a Defender version of it for £900!!!! Mind you, they will deliver it free of charge in the UK at that price :)

Suddenly the Brownchurch looks like a bargain! Oh well..... I wonder if they do reductions at Land Rover shows <grin>

Thanks again
