Title: Abingdon 2008 Sunday Pics
synapse - September 28, 2008 03:43 PM (GMT)
Hi all,
I've just got back from Abingdon and uploaded some of the Freelander pics I took there on photobucket. Some of you may recognise your own vehicles on the off-road course.....? Feel free to PM me if you would like any of the original picture files e-mailed to yourselves. The link is:

cheers,
Steve

oooh - you got some of me (S13 GMB). My Freelander spent most of the weekend pounding around the course with no (apparent) damage despite some nasty sounding hits.
Needs a bit of a clean though:

And it has got a bit of a steering wobble, which I'm hoping is just an accumulation of mud somewhere - or perhaps a lost wheel weight.
I'm pleased to report that everyone who rode around the course in the Freelander was impressed at its ability. We proved a lot of people wrong this weekend :)

Mine is completely standard apart from steel wheels and AT tyres.

Same here, all as standard with just the addition of some General Grabber AT2's and 35mm spacers each side . The course marshalls and several other 'big' Land Rover owners seemed pretty impressed with what the Hippos could achieve!
looking forward to next year already!

And a few more...

Some are better than others as I was snapping away whilst trying to prevent vehicles running into each other. However, if anybody sees something they'd like then let me know and I can send on the (bigger) original.
I decided against taking my own Freelander around the course - other than driving to and from my marshal post. My wife and I went round in her DII on AT's on Saturday and I decided it would be a pointless exercise for my Freelander on road slicks. That and I'd then have two cars to clean afterwards

Oh, and I think it was Steve (Synapse) that I stopped to take a closer look at your cb antenna mount on the spare wheel bracket. I noticed the Freelander Club sticker on the back as you drove away.
I'd welcome a bit more detail on that mount, if you don't mind. A piccy with the spare wheel removed would be superb...:)

Hi there,
I got the mount off a guy on e-bay who does them to order for around £15 each plus postage. I've used his pics to show you the fitment (on photobucket via the links below).
The bracket is very well made and sturdy and seems to provide a good ground plane for the cb aerial.
Let me know if you need more info,
Steve

hi synapse your side bars are they steps or a sort of side /sill protection ????
synapse - October 2, 2008 10:23 PM (GMT)
The side protection is a fairly narrow set of aftermarket side steps which provide good protection for the sills (more of a supermarket car park 'trolley avoidance system' if truth be known!!). The tops are 8mm chequerplate with 40mm diameter tubing to support them.
To be honest I think the supporting brackets sit rather too low and certainly made some alarming noises and caught lots of mud and grass as we made our way round the Abingdon course.
I've resolved to get a 2" lift before we try any more serious off road stuff....

Thanks Steve, that's excellent. I don't suppose you have the eBay guys' details, do you?

The chap has one up for grabs on e-bay at the moment as Item number: 190256481185. You should be able to get the details from there?

Ta very much. Can't look from work (mutter, mutter, net police, mutter) but shall investigate later :)

Happy to help. The bracket's on an e-bay listing for the next couple of days so should give you plenty of time to take a look,
Steve
