Title: Freelander Clutch
Description: Clutch judder

Helmuth Estermann - September 12, 2008 07:27 AM (GMT)
Hi-
My 1999 Freelander 1.8 has again clutch judder. This always happens after about 50000km of driving and always in first gear, sometimes also in second, and only when the car is warm after about 20 min driving. When cold from morning start, there is no problem at all. I have now the 5th clutch fitted, the Landrover garage say it needs a new clutch again. And nobody can say what the problem is or how to fix it, or is it normal with the Freelander??? cannot be!
Any ideas?
Helmuth

There was a problem with the Clutch Plates and Land Rover started to fit a modified plate. Make certain that your getting the Modified plate fitted because there are still some of the old plates about.

The explanation I got was that because of European legislation the Lead content of the original plates was illegal so a substitute was used which was not up to the job thus the introduction of the modified plate.

I found the plates started to fail at approx 5000 miles but since the Modified plate has been fitted it seems to be fine (Fingers crossed).
