Hi
Just got a caravan a wee 2 berth a Abbey GTS 212 its a 93 model tows well with the Freelander do'nt know about mpg as yet just fitted a tuning chip from germany still accessing it just now. A Sticker for a window would be great, anyway will be looking for some tips along the way maybe start a caravan tips section for us newbies to caravaning. Any help would be great.

just decide how you want it and let me know
it can be made a seperate section with sub categories............
just let me know what sub categories
southendmike - August 27, 2008 04:31 PM (GMT)
George - Many thanks - I didn't realise my suggestion would be taken up so quickly! As for sub-categories, I'll have to cogitate on that one.
'Er indoors and I are taking delivery of a 10-year old 4-Berth Lunar LX 2000 next week and looking forward to getting out and about with it.
Now - how about some more members "coming on board" and having perhaps a "mini rally" somewhere when we get some reasonable weather (next year perhaps)?
From experience, I know that there aren't too many FLC members in my neck of the woods (South Essex), but is there anyone in the Caravan Club or Camping and Caravanning Club who's experienced in running a Rally, perhaps even as a Marshal or similar?
Could be the opportunity for an interesting long weekend perhaps?
Any thoughts or suggestions?

Nowt wrong with a snail shed!!!!
We've got a Lunar Meteorite S of indeterminate age that sits behind the Freelander beautifully. The biggest problem is remembering that the speed limit on the motorway is 60.
Well it does only have a max weight of 950kgs!!!!!
inthewred - August 31, 2008 02:15 PM (GMT)
yeah snap we have a abbey piper 2 berth and about the same weight you dont know it is on the back

Nice to see other caravanners on here and not getting slated!!!! I did get a lot of stick on a few of the Vauxall forums for being a caravanner.
We have a Coachman Amara 520/4 (2006), and have just got back from the south of france (80 miles from the Spanish border).
Our Freelander 2 TD4 was faultless, the Superchips Bluefin helped out alot!!
I used to tow with a Vauxhall Signum 3.0 V6 CDTi which was an awesome towcar, but lover the Freelander 2 for towing.

nothing wrong in getting out in the british country/seaside towing the snail staying over and getting slaughtered and not having to worry about getting home and lets face it with the cost of living these days its a much cheaper option.

I cannot claim to be a caravanner. I bought an old one around 1993 to use at a flying rallys and 'lived' in it at Glenrothes airfield while training. I only twice used it on a proper caravan site. For the last few years it has been used as a shed and slowly deteriorating. HOWEVER: in the last few weeks I have got rid of it and bought a replacement which we plan to use, initially at least, in the Derbyshire Peak District and then in the southern regions of the Yorkshire before venturing further afield to east and north Yorkshire. It is a 1992 2-berth Avondale.

We have always caravanned, as we have four dogs and it is much easier to take them with us!!
Have to say, we were both really impressed with how well the Freelander towed, our heavy and old caravan. It was a joy to drive and really economical on fuel.
Much better than our 2007 Ford focus estate.

wouldent go quite that far inthred, had to put a sorn on my freeby for 6 months, hadnt realised that all the tax, insurance, and mot came together,we had some great holidays last year and this year, but noticed the difference in the cost, my vans a avondale dart,5 berth just right for the grandkids, good site for everyone is stowford farm, north devon, had no problems towing my van with the freeby, but noticed the huge increase in the fuel cost,£120,to dorset and back, put that on top of the cost of the site etc,it works out expensive,(my wife likes the best sites, all the comforts of home and all that,)me ,ill sleep anywhere, [drve]

Hello all..
We have a 55 plate Freelander TD4 freestyle and a Avondale Landranger 5500 the caravan is a bit on the heavy side but the Freelander pulls it just fine.
We live in the north east (durham) and would look forward to a rally
all the best Al & Cat wilson

hi all my freelander is a 99 2.0 diesel "L"
when i got it it was a bit flat on power
i only got it because my wife would not drive my 300tdi and we were going to france with our caravan ( tdi failed mot on tin worm!!)
after a bit of a look round on the net i came across a site called rover ron
after a good read i got a tu 1 L kit it took me 35 minns to fit and what a BIG change
now no trucks pass me towing v/good on fuel 35 plus i can turn fuel up and down on the move also change map settings at will
i tow a 2006 coachman pasiche 520/4 and live in lancashire
jabbadal - October 6, 2008 08:44 PM (GMT)
A freelander caravan rally sounds like an excellent idea (not too far north though for us softy southerners!)
Wonder if we could combine it with a Freelander event or Landrover event to make it more interesting?
We will promise to park our very old Buccaneer at the back out of sight!!
