Not too bad of an episode, although I knew it was too easy when the first (supposed) UnSub turned himself in.

------------------

Stuff We Learned Tonight:

1. On one of the first few cases Hotchner and Gideon did together, the killer walked. Apparently, this still irks Hotch.

2. M.G.G./Reid is 24 (which it doesn't say on IMDb).

(Actually, I guessed that he was 24 when the comment about him not being born yet in the early 80s was made, but then he came right out and said it later on.)

3. Do NOT make Gideon angry!!! Mandy pulls a rather fearsome face when he's really upset (or pretending to be upset, as it was tonight) that made me want to run for the hills and worry about nightmares. (With a look like that, I imagine Isaac and Gideon were very well behaved little boys! {And probably quite polite men, now!})

Actually, MGG is 26 (born in 1980), and my roommate and I guessed that Reid would be 22, so when he said 24 it was a nice balance between reality and our obsessive little fangirl minds.

Also, holy crap yeah don't ever piss Gideon off. He is scary formidable. One disapproving look and you kinda want to tuck tail between your legs and run away. But that's part of why we love Mandy, right? He's such a full-spectrum actor. <3

Absolutley loved it. Each eppy is just getting better.

Things I loved:

The moral twist - the first time they've had the public on the killers side. I was especially moved by the tv interviews at the end.

The Chinese - a nice little group scene, the same as in the aeroplane earlier.

Reid - never been to NY and can't eat with chopsticks. Awesome.

The UnSub - not too unlikeable considering he was a nutter.

The moment he burst in on the woman and the guy who killed his parents.

The catholic lady. What a sweetie.

The lady Cop. She rocked. *whistles innocently* I didn't suspect her, not really.

Hell, I don't think I've got a single thing negative to say.

Oh yeah - why must there be bagbipes at a funeral all the time? As my mum said, they've suffered enough.

Hey guys,
I´m awefully new to CM and totally addicted :).

I just watched "A Real Rain" and was wondering if I got it right: in the end, was it Hotch to shoot the guy or was it one of the snipers?
I believe it was one of the snipers, but I´m kind of torn because Hotch stood there so stony-faced. I´d love to hear your take on it.

Otherwise, i really enjoyed this ep. Loved the restaurant-scene as well :)!

i think it was one of the swat team members...im pretty sure...and yeah..the resturant scene was great...its not every episode that we get to see them just hang out...well...if you could call that just hanging out...

Jeri - September 30, 2006 07:46 AM (GMT)
Thank you, I just kew it ;)! It would have been strange for Hotch to shoot him, after all he heard that he wanted to surrender. Just wanted to make sure since I didn´t know how to interpret his look.

I wish they would more like these dinner-scenes. i loved it when Hotch turned to Elle and said."So, Elle, are you seeing someone"? It´s nice to see him crack a joke every once in a while.

Didn't we also find out in Plain Sight that Reid was 24? I thought Hotch or Gideon mentioned it.

Anyway, I liked this episode. I can't use chopsticks, either, and the rubber band trick doesn't work at all! (or, maybe, you know, I'm just the world's clumsiest person!)

I'm also pretty certain that Hotch did shoot the unsub, mostly because the sniper-cam shot seemed to show a side shot of the head, and the actual shot was front on from the chest. Plus the cut to Hotch at the end seemed pretty dramatic. It's ambiguous, though, which is good because it allows for plenty of different opinons!

I like how this could have been a very depressing episode, given the subject matter, but it had enough light hearted moments to make me smile/laugh.

ac5000 - October 1, 2006 09:40 PM (GMT)
i thought it was just how Hotch reacted to having someone get shot...and i thought he was the one who wanted the Unsub out alive...

yes...the elastic band doesnt work...if at all...it makes it worse...kinda like a sling shot...

Jeri - October 2, 2006 11:45 AM (GMT)
I agree, I think they would´ve made it more of an issue if it had been Hotch to shoot that guy. You know, Gideon confronting him or something along that line. Also, they made it clear that the police preferred to shoot him because he dishonored them or whatever.
Last but not least, Hotch knew that that guy was going to surrender so he had no reason to shoot him.

Huh.

Been thinking way too much about, I´m scaring myself ;).

I certainly loved the scene when they were sitting in the restaurant and Elle points out that they are always talking about work and Hotch turns to her, looks straight in her face and states : "You're. So, Elle, are you seeing anyone?" ...

I just loved it!

ac5000 - November 20, 2007 03:07 AM (GMT)

I love that scene too :) This eppy really stands out for me when I think of season one, we really see them all bonded as a team. This is absolutely one of my all time favourite episodes!

Hotch clearly has a sense of humour, I wish we could see it more often!

Reid and the chopsticks...so cute :D Loved the teasing...

ac5000 - November 21, 2007 04:28 AM (GMT)
AND lets not forget, it all led to a cute little Reid/JJ interaction

CalleighElleDakota - January 2, 2008 03:32 PM (GMT)
Yeah the "rubber band trick" or how they called it - very cute! B)
