Title: Profiler, Profiled
Description: Original Air Date: December 13th, 2006

Okay, this is obviously labelled SPOILER!!!! So be warned.
It was A LOT of information jammed into this episode. I'm still in the process of processing and at this point in time, this is the basic...
1) I was VERY disappointed when it came to the police work (Give me a break on so many counts I think I actually lost count!)... A shoe string, if that was all they may have had, which is highly suspect in the first place (I've seen them treat perps better in real life then the victims they're supposed to be 'protecting').
2) In terms of Morgan's background, I wasn't sure if the opening scenes were really necessary, being that they didn't take it further, except to say that he ran with those 'guys' and got into trouble... Big deal!
3) He had a juvenile record... Even if it's sealed wouldn't someone have 'known' about it... Perhaps let it slide for whatever reason, I don't know.
4) Gideon provided the cop with the 'profile'... What idiot takes something at face value unless they have it in for someone... I sat there and just cringed at how the interaction played out... Ah well, they do have a creative licence.
I have to say that Prentiss kinda fit in... Sort of in the sense that she tried to play nice with Reid and his physics magic (Loved it when Hotch turns around and made the comment that he could still make it go further, or something to that effect). But still.... What's up with the SIR thing??? They even have Reid saying it :(
Certain things aside, I enjoyed the episode... Less Prentiss and I'd be over the moon.

I thought it was very interesting..
i NEVER thought it was going to end the way it did lol. for a while, i thought morgan was going to be leaving the show or something lol.
now i must admit, i didn't like hotch too much today.. he was just so serious and blah. lol. and gideon wasn't shown enough lol.
bu yeah, it was nice to see morgans background.. he seems to have come from a tough background.

Man, this episode was suprising. My dad and I were watching the eppy and my dad made a comment of something along the lines of " Buford has something to do with the murders" and then I was like holy crap. Teenager who adores mentor, mentor who is a little too close so half way in I knew Morgan was molested but it still shocked me. I mean no offense to Reid but Reid seems to be much more likely of someone who would get "mistreated." But alot of Morgan's behavior makes sense now. Ah the joys of psycho-analyzing. Still very good eppy. Good to see Morgan as more than man-meat, but what lovely man-meat it is!
ac5000 - December 15, 2006 01:15 AM (GMT)
personally, i didn't really like this eppy...i thought it was a little bit unrealistic and predictable. It might have just been me, but i knew that Buford was the guy right from when Morgan or whoever started talking about how he was a hero and how he ran that youth community group. And..the cops had barely anything on Morgan...definetly not enought to arrest him...
On the bright side, im starting to like Emily a bit more and she really fit in at the beginning scene (which i thought was hilarious).
I love this show! - December 15, 2006 02:03 AM (GMT)
I wasn't too happy with this episode. It was interesting getting more background info on Morgan but aside from that the story line wasn't very good and I thought pretty predictable. It was pretty easy to guess who the bad guy was going to end up being.
Reid was totally obnoxious - half the time he is geeky and half the time he's serious and becoming almost normal (and I like him both ways) but last night he was just annoying.
Prentiss wasn't as annoying but she just seemed to be filling space (it almost seemed like everyone was just kind of there but not really serving any real purpose to the story.)
I think this is probably my least favorite episode to date.
J.J. - December 15, 2006 04:12 AM (GMT)
I try to get past the whole I know who it is bit... If I didn't... I wouldn't be able to watch, I wouldn't be able to enjoy it for what it is... I pretty much 'get it' in the first few minutes of the episode (once I'd love to get a surprise)...
For certain things I think they either tried too hard, or over thought it... On the tried too hard thing, it was obvious with the over use of the 'gang' culture... I think we got it with the intro of the pack... Why would they be harassing his sister when he was there, and from what I could tell, probably weren't doing it on a consistent basis... Then turning to the whole 'bad cop' concept, very natural progression because gee... Who would have thought that it would be the well respected rec centre guy??? <wink, wink>
I think they ought to consider watching a few of the English crime shows to really get the knack of keeping the un-sub a 'secret' for longer than five minutes... That would help in stretching out the suspense aspect of the show.

I just found this thread (and, btw, wondered why it is so short) … and I am sorry for bumping up “old” episodes like this one. I hope it’s OK. It’s my only possibility to share some of my thoughts about this episode.
And as for me I think “Profiler profiled” was awesome. It focused on Morgan’s personal background and you learned so much about him. The character gained depth, and his past that is revealed to us in this episode explains so much (as for his usual behaviour, his way of living).
I admit that I didn’t concentrate on the police work or wondered if the story line was predictable, unlike some of you (yes, perhaps, sometimes I'm not very critical). Actually I knew - accidentally - what happened to Morgan even before I started watching the episode. But the story itself, the serious item (child abuse), Morgan’s behaviour, reaction of the team, the acting …. All this really grabbed my attention, even captivated me (I hope this is the right word to use in this context, I am not sure ... perhaps "be on edge" would fit better) through the entire episode.
And the end (Morgan and Carl) was amazing, too. Shemar Moore’s acting was really great (and not only in this scene!). Full of emotions and intensity and very, very touching.
tamul :)

I thought Profiler, Profiled was an excellent episode. It showed such a range in Shemar Moore's acting and it showed that Morgan as a character can carry an entire episode, which none of the other characters have done yet.
I loved the way they explained Morgan's background and why he's so intense at times, especially with cases dealing with children. It also gave you great background on his family, his home, and what drives him. It also showed that Morgan had to have a lot of determination about himself to put this behind him and become something substantial in his life.
The storyline itself was very good to me because it was something that unfortunately happens to a lot of kids. You have an upstanding member of the community who appears to be helping children when he or she is actually causing lifelong scars. I'm glad Morgan got Carl off the street, even if it was years later.
I love this show! - March 11, 2007 03:30 AM (GMT)
Going back to old episodes is just fine! I wasn't overly impressed with the story of this episode (sad and I didn't really like how the rest of the team worked into the story) but I did think Shemar gave one of his best acting performances in this episode and I really liked that about it.
huuudaaa - September 10, 2007 02:23 PM (GMT)
bump bump bump! because i only watched this 2 weeks ago and my friends are simply not interested in CM.
I didnt really thought much who the bad guy was, partly because i was sleepy and partly because i was going "omg omg omg howw can they profile Morgan?? howww can hotch call Morgan a suspect???" and i was very very furious at Hotch. but thining back, it was quite obvious, i agree.
But about morgan, though, i had absolutely no idea (because i'm always blur like that). It was super sad! and plus with shemar's acting and his watery eyes, i just had to cry. heheh.
Reid was, i agree, a bit annoying towards the middle (i'm so sorry Reid!!), but hilarious in the first scene!
the rest i ddnt pay much attention to. heh.

I love this episode! The beginning is really cute!
And Shemar's acting…GREAT! I also really liked knowing more about him, about his dad, and of course the whole Buford stuff. In the episode P911 Morgan reacts much more angry then the others towards the pedofile. That totally makes sence now.
I actually thought Reid was adorable in the middle, with his cake and his stupid remarks, but I also didn't understand how he could stay calm, Morgan is so much like a best friend for him, how can you stay calm if they accuse your best friend of being a serial killer?
I hated Hotch here and that it took them so long to figure it out, they also worked very much alone and everyone getting the same conclusions.
I loved Morgan's family. You know that his sister Sarah, that actress also used to play in the serie 'Profiler', there she was Angel. I thought that was kinda funny, she played in two series about profilers.
And I loved when Morgan talks to James about Buford and sais: "I've got your back."

i alos like this episode too..!! shemar acting is amazing
I love this show! - September 10, 2007 10:03 PM (GMT)
I'm probably repeating some earlier comments I made but.......this wasn't one of my favorites (in fact I think it was one of my least favorites) I thought Shemar did a really good acting job but I wasn't too thrilled about the story itself. And I thought Reid was kind of annoying in this episode. (Sorry Reid.....love ya but I'm glad he's not like this in every episode.) I thought it was SO sad that the team pushed to find out what Morgan didn't want them to know and I don't think knowing that really helped in catching Carl, so it was disappointing to me.
ILoveReed1988 - September 11, 2007 12:51 AM (GMT)
well i mean everyone has their opinions..
I love this show! - September 11, 2007 01:07 AM (GMT)
Of course! I think it's very interesting that some of us really like some episodes that others don't like and vice/versa. Different things appeal to different people. :)
What was it that you liked about this episode IloveReed1988?
ILoveReed1988 - September 11, 2007 01:13 AM (GMT)
i like that it showed a diff side of derek ..like his family and all that..its interesting?
I love this show! - September 11, 2007 01:21 AM (GMT)
I'm not trying to debate - just start a conversation.
I agree it was interesting to learn more about Derek's home life. Until that episode we really didn't know anything about him. We learned his father was killed (he witnessed it) I still think it's weird that almost all the team's fathers either died or left. We met his mother and found out he has two sisters. And then sadly learned he had been molested....apparently answering why he seems to avoid real relationships and "doesn't easily trust people"
ILoveReed1988 - September 11, 2007 01:24 AM (GMT)
yea....i hadnt relized that...either all the team's fathers died or left...wonder why that is?
I love this show! - September 11, 2007 01:32 AM (GMT)
We have a whole topic about that somewhere.....weird isn't it? I wonder if that was really planned that way or it's just the way it worked out. Gideon is the only one who seemed to have a normal father/son relationship (at least that's what I'm guessing) He mentions in Fisher King when he's talking about the baseball card and his "hero" that he "went to almost every game with his father that year." And we don't know about JJ.
ILoveReed1988 - September 11, 2007 01:35 AM (GMT)
yea it doesnt say much about jj only that she likes butterflies..maybe well find more this season
I love this show! - October 12, 2007 01:47 AM (GMT)
This was not one of my favorite episodes ("Profiler, Profiled") but I listened to the commentary on the S2 DVD and I think it did give me a new appreciation for the episode. Especially listening to Shemar.....I think it helped me to understand where he was coming from and how much this episode in particular meant to him. I think I'll always view this one differently now (in a good way!) :)
ILoveReed1988 - October 12, 2007 02:26 PM (GMT)
that was always one of my fav episoes...

Hey Everyone ok my old username howiedoroughissosososexy didn't work so know my new one is nicklacheyishot
K with the espoide I thought it was a very good one,
I like how they used good lines like when Derek was talking to the Det. and said "Call me agent Derek Morgan" Det "You wll always be just Derek to me" Derek "And you'll always be a racist son-of-a-b***h to me" and then again Det "Did you get some sleep" Derek: "You know I didn't" Det: "Slept like a baby myself, didn't even wanna get out of bed" Derek: Really? So that wasn't you donut-eatin' ass on the other side glass all night then, huh"
Really good

Well your username now is much easier to remember! I had trouble with the other one ;)
It was definitely a good episode in terms of finding out more about Derek ;) Still don't like it though. I will get around to watching that season 2 commentary sometime!
huuudaaa - December 19, 2007 04:28 PM (GMT)
ahhh, i havent listened to the commntary either!
nicklacheyishot - December 29, 2007 01:05 AM (GMT)
Hey all
I have season Two on DVD and the commentary for this show is very good.
Shemar expains in his own words how it was like for him to shot the espodie and he said how it moved him and how it might tell people how it was back in the day and how white treated the black people.
Oh and also until the new espodie after the holidays Profiler,Profiled will be on next Weds night on at 9:00pm on CBS or CTV if you live in Canada.
TTY soon

Not just you. Anytime Morgan wants to fulfill his mother's wish of lots and lots of grandbabies, I'm available. ;)
Anyhoo, I loved the ep too, but I swear I was going to jump through the TV and strangle Gordinski if it had gone on for any longer, with him blaming Morgan. But Shemar's performance was excellent.
ILoveReed1988 - January 6, 2008 03:13 AM (GMT)
This is probably one of my top 10 fav episodes of CM ..I Really like it a lot

I was sorry for Morgan very much. I hope for that trainer it was closed in a dark cell!
But his mommy pestered it with the grandchildren, it was very good.
I have a younger brother, but sometimes he like that an older brother. He wants to know who it is immediately if he sees with a boy. But was like that, that protected.
Vain, the boy brothers already only like this! Not adoring them may not be him.
