Title: Writing Styles
Description: 1st/3rd person etc

CriminalMind - November 26, 2006 03:26 PM (GMT)
What is the difference between 3rd person and 1st person?
And are there any other styles like that, ie, is there a 2nd person? And which style do you find easier?
Also which style holds your attention more?
Again, a ramberling, vague post, but me and writing aren't friends at the minute, so im sorry! lol
Thanks for any help!

3rd person is annoying and does NOT hold my attention. Its as if I were to say to you.."LeeChrista is pretty into The Gube right now". Talking about yourself by calling yourself your own name...make sense?

Here is a website that explains it a bit better than I just did.

I Googled "First, second and third person writing styles" or something along those lines.

Third person is often used in essay writing (Thank Julius Caesar for that one)... Hence why it's rather dry.

First person is essentially telling the story from a particular person's point of view... Please keep in mind that if you choose this POV, and the character isn't in the room, they can't tell the audience what happened. I've dealt with that when I wrote my little trilogy when Elle got stabbed, hospitalised, back in the filed, and then back in hospital. The TV on in her hotel room was the only way the audience knew that something had happened... Otherwise, I wouldn't have been able to flip back and forth. That's something that I notice people do in fanfic (and it drives me nuts)... So if you choose first person be mindful of the pitfalls)... In most cases a neutral POV may actually benefit the direction of a story (You can flip-flop between characters and whatnot easier).
