Has anyone else here ever been geocaching? Seriously...after CM this is my addiction! It is SO MUCH FUN!!!

You need a GPS to play. People have hidden little boxes and containers all over the world and what you do is go to the website click here and punch coordinates of caches hidden near you into your GPS and then using the directions it gives you....you have to go find what they hid! Some just have log book to write your name down but some hold "treasures" (if you take something then you have to leave something for the next person) and there are different kinds of caches too.

If you have access to a GPS you need to try it out! :)

You can get them at sporting goods stores. They're kind of expensive. Mine was normally $100 dollars but it was on sale for $80 and then I used a gift card towards it too so I only had to pay 1/2 price. A lot of cars come with them these days but some you can't drive to so it works better to have a mobile one.

wow..that doesnt cost that much

Some are really expensive and run between $300 - $400 (maybe even more expensive) Mine is relatively cheap but it works great for what I want to do with it!

I've also figured out that I'm much braver when I have someone with me. When I'm by myself I tend to chicken out if there's a lot of people around!

My friend at work and I had finished and had a little time left so we went to look for a few (we were in our uniforms) so we figured we probably looked somewhat offical like we were working until we had to start looking in trees and stuff and there weren't any gas meters around!

So what kind of stuff do you hide?

You can hide anything you want (that fits into the cache) Most are little inexpensive things. I've found some money in some but most just have little toys. Then there are travel bugs (hitchikers) which look like dog tags attached to different things. They have goals or missions (you get to choose what you want your travel bug to try to accomplish) I have two travel bugs out right now....One I just want to see where it will go and the other one is attached to a picture I'm trying to get to my sister in California. There are also Geocoins (special coins made)

Really just about anything you can think of!

Wow, it sounds like a whole separate world. I'm sure it's fun.

The thing with a GPS, nobody I know has ever been able to properly use one. My best friend's dad got one for his car and to try it out, he put in that we wanted to go to Blockbuster (he was giving us a lift there). We knew where the nearest location was, about a five minute drive, but the GPS gave us results for Blockbusters twenty minutes away! Luckily we weren't actually lost....

It is VERY fun! Some people are very clever and sneaky about where they hide them so sometimes it takes a few minutes to find them. I think my favorite one so far was in a fake Coke can. We thought it was at a tree so we looked everywhere and just about gave up but the title gave us a hint it was the can so we started looking on the ground and sure enough...there was a can that wasn't opened and it was heavy. You screwed off the top and the stuff was inside.

Once you get the hang of it it's not hard at all.....the problem is (but this is what makes it fun and challenging) it knows distances but only in a straight line from where you are to where your destination is. So you could be very close but if there's something in between you and the cache (a fence, a house, etc) you have to go around and find a different way to get to it.

The road ones that talk and give directions I think would drive me crazy!
