Oh my God, you look so cute Brigitte!! What's this carnival though? Is it like a job fair?
JulieFan - January 11, 2008 08:50 PM (GMT)
In the Netherlands where it is called 'Karnaval', 'Carnaval', 'Vastenavond' or 'Vastelaovend' the last day of Carnival, the day before Ash Wednesday, is held exactly 40 days (not counting Sundays) before Easter.
Dutch Carnival is most celebrated in Catholic regions, mostly the southern provinces Noord Brabant (where I live) and Limburg.
It is the most southern province of The Netherlands, Limburg, where many Dutch go to celebrate it. During the event, every town is one big party.
During Dutch Carnival, many traditions are kept alive. First of all is the parade with dressed-up groups, musicians and elaborately built floats. Also traditions include a fake prince plus cortège ('Council of 11'), the boerenbruiloft (farmer's wedding) and the haring happen (eating herring) on Ash Wednesday. However, the traditions vary from town to town.
SHORT VERSION: Watching the parade, dress up in costumes, go to the local building where everybody comes after the parade, and spend 40 euros on alcohol :P :o

Thank you, there are loads more on my myspace! But you have to be my myspace friend to see them! I think you already are :)!
Rach112 - January 12, 2008 09:16 PM (GMT)

How cute!!
the day before Ash Wednesday here in USA is called "fat Tuesday" also known as Marti Gras. Many adults go out and party, and have a great time. It is the wildest time of the year. such a fun holiday! Costumes are also of course definetely used!
JulieFan - January 13, 2008 08:12 AM (GMT)
Yes, it's like that! Only people can be dressed as cows, witches etc. etc. too :)!
Luna - January 13, 2008 10:55 AM (GMT)
So cool, I never celebrated carnaval since it isn't custom in Amsterdam, did have a friend growning up who would leave school for a couple of days to celebrate it in Noord Brabant.
And my brother went last year…only without custume, and he couldn't get a train at night back so he was kinda stuck :P
You look great Brigitte, have lot's of fun! :D
CM Addict - January 13, 2008 04:22 PM (GMT)
So why do you need a wig, Brigitte? And I can sympathize with the eyebrows. I hate mine! I got them waxed once but they bled. I've been thinking about doing it again just because it's been driving me crazy how thick they are! <_<
Rach112 - January 13, 2008 04:35 PM (GMT)
Mine bled too the first time but it gets better! I prefer waxing to plucking, that is horrible!
CM Addict - January 13, 2008 04:42 PM (GMT)
Yeah, plucking is horrible. Have you ever had them threaded? When I got them waxed that was part of the plan, wax then thread, but the lady got freaked out when I started bleeding (I would have preferred she just went ahead, but yeah).
Rach112 - January 13, 2008 05:06 PM (GMT)
No, I have never had them threaded. I'm getting quite good at waxing my own now so I'll just stick with that :)

Well because you have to look silly at carnival :P and the wig gives it an extra touch!
Luna - January 13, 2008 07:01 PM (GMT)
Oh god hearing your stories, I'm so not touching my eyebrows :ph43r:
When are you going to show a picture with the costume and the wig Brigitte? :) hope you look a nice mix of cute and silly ;)
Rach112 - January 13, 2008 07:51 PM (GMT)
It's really not that traumatic ;) Well, unless you get a trainee therapist....
Some people suit thicker eyebrows anyways!
Luna - January 13, 2008 07:58 PM (GMT)
Well…I'm still not touching my eyebrows :P
Glampire28 - January 14, 2008 04:33 AM (GMT)
That is a great looking costume.. I would like to see it with the wig also. I bet it looks even better.
I hope you have a fun time. :)
CM Addict - January 14, 2008 08:00 PM (GMT)
Aw, Luna, sorry to freak you out. Like Rach said, it's really not that bad. But for some people it doesn't matter what their eyebrows look like, so yeah, not that big a deal.
Brigitte, when do we get pictures?! When is this carnival anyway?
JulieFan - January 14, 2008 08:09 PM (GMT)
February 4th! Sorry I'll make pictures asap, tomorrow is my day off! :D
