CalleighElleDakota - December 31, 2007 11:17 PM (GMT)
So i just re-watched once again "A real rain" and started wondering how many members of the forum are actually able to eat with chopsticks - I certainly can... B)

I love this show! - December 31, 2007 11:23 PM (GMT)
I'm with Reid on chopsticks and speaking Spanish!

CalleighElleDakota - December 31, 2007 11:27 PM (GMT)
If I would use my Spanish more often I would start speaking it fluetly again :P B)

I eat with chopsticks and speak Spanish :P
Eating with chopsticks is fun! And I so love Japanese vegggie food! :)

huuudaaa - January 1, 2008 02:40 PM (GMT)
well, i can slightly, but im horrible at it. I'd get frustrated after a few minutes especially when eating noodles. Gahhh. But i'm still practicing! XD

CM Addict - January 1, 2008 05:20 PM (GMT)
I've never gotten the opportunity to try chopsticks, but I'd love to. Of course, I guess I'd have to find somebody to teach me how to use them first, huh? ;)

Rach112 - January 1, 2008 07:12 PM (GMT)
I've never had to use them but I bet I'd be just like Reid!

Luna - January 1, 2008 07:29 PM (GMT)
People…culture! Seriously go eat sushi or something! :P
It really is fun! ;)

JulieFan - January 1, 2008 07:30 PM (GMT)
I have never tried it.

Rach112 - January 1, 2008 07:32 PM (GMT)
Sushi, Chinese...all that stuff is icky! Lol, I'm just a really fussy eater I guess

Have to agree with Chinese (well…I do like some things…but the vegtables my mom always orders with take out… :ph43r: horrible) but our Chinese doesn't have chopsticks

But you should go to a Japanese restaurant, they have the most delicious food (not just sushi ;) ) and I knew this Japanese restaurant in Amsterdam who has to most delicious icecream I've ever eaten! ;) (wouldn't go just to Amsterdam for Japanese food though… :P )

Rach112 - January 1, 2008 07:46 PM (GMT)
Maybe one day! We have no Japanese restaurants here...

Trip to China next year...this may be a silly question but will I have to use chopsticks?

I love this show! - January 1, 2008 07:55 PM (GMT)
We have the best Japanese restaurant here!!! It's my favorite, and fun too. They cook everything on a big grill right in front of you and it is yummy!!!! :D

No chopsticks.....good thing!

Reid is sexy even "speaking" Spanish :P

I´m not able to use chopsticks. I tried but I´m too much restless and I get very nervous...

When I was in China they (the server) brought us forks......westerners...lol :)

if you watch the clip (from real rain), JJ attach's her hair band (or elastic) to the top of the "sticks"...this is a great idea for beginners as it helps "squeeze" the food and you can pick up your supper!!

if all else follow the chopsticks 101 rules:

It is bad manners

-to wave your chopsticks around aimlessly over the food, trying to decide what to take next.

-changing the food you have selected after you have touched the food.

-looking for contents in a soup with chopsticks.

-it is bad manners to spear food with the points of the chopsticks as if they were a fork.

-raking foods into one's already full mouth with chopsticks.

-licking the ends of chopsticks.

huuudaaa - January 2, 2008 10:16 AM (GMT)
i always 'look' for contents first! but i dont think i'll ever rake food into someone!

there're loadsss of chinese and japanese restaurants here. well there ought to be since like almost half of singaporeans are chinese. and they gave me chopsticks, but idk if they always do that.

you could always buy them and use them for noodles, just to try it out. but it'll be much more fun to have a go in a restaurant :D

I´m not sure... Japanese restaurants I´ve been were too much chic to run the risk of making a fool of myself throwing my food away :D

JulieFan - January 2, 2008 11:03 AM (GMT)
We have them, but we never use them. I don't even know why we have them.

CalleighElleDakota - January 2, 2008 02:00 PM (GMT)
Well, I have to admit that there are times when I even suck concerning my English

Why would anyone do that?

I don't think we have any Japanese places around here, and with our Chinese places we don't use chopsticks (of course, a fair amount of the takeout we get from the Chinese place is not actually Chinese, like chicken balls   ).

I would want to learn them before needing to use them at a restaurant, wouldn't want to look like Reid.

Same, I'm gonna go out and buy some then do a JJ

CM Addict - January 2, 2008 04:47 PM (GMT)
Where would one buy chopsticks?

Rach112 - January 2, 2008 05:03 PM (GMT)
Chinatown...or Woolworths sell the very basic ones! Lol, I think they're pretty easy to pick up.

ac5000 - January 2, 2008 09:24 PM (GMT)
i hate to break it to you...but i dont think the elastic band thing works. ive tried it and everytime the noodles flip everywhere. just use the chopsticks normally. :D

CM Addict - January 3, 2008 04:51 PM (GMT)
Thanks for the info, ac. And y'know, another place to get my hands on chopsticks just dawned on me (since Chinatown is a little out of the way). There's a Thai place in the mall food court...I've never had Thai food, but I've thought about trying it, and you get the utensils yourself, so I could pick up some chopsticks and then a fork for backup! ;)

...Problem is, Thai food is spicy, isn't it? I'd have to find a dish I could handle....Any suggestions peeps?

CriminalMind - January 3, 2008 06:28 PM (GMT)
I love Thai food! Although we always have to get the less spicy stuff, because my Dad and brother hate spicy food. *sob* Thai Spicy Chciken, yum!

Anyways, you could get some of the 'basic' rice dishes, like Thai Fried Rice with Chicken, there normally less spicy. Although, trying to pick rice up with chopsticks is hard! :P

I can't eat with chopsticks to save my life! I tend to end up looking like the dish, as the food flys everywhere, and I once managed to spear my brother with my chopsticks, and get rice all in his hair. Never eaten with 'em again! :P

You made me laugh :P
Poor brother of yours, you tried to attack him with your dangerous chopticks and your flying rice :P

Some dishes are but there are a lot that aren't. To me it's just like Chinese. I love it! I'm sure the waitress could tell you what is spicy. I have a menu from a local Thai restaurant (it lists quite a few or else I'd write them all down for you) but they are labeled which ones are spicy)

lol, yeah, I'm a bit of a scary person when I'm eating with chopsticks! :D I don't think me and chopsticks really go, so I get to be the 'silly westener' when we go out-it's much safer, and I don't cause people to wanna snack of me! :P

huuudaaa - January 4, 2008 12:14 PM (GMT)
I kwno what thai food nott to try - TomYam (and no, it's not of yam. yuck.)soup. Gah, it's spicy alright. But im getting used to it, i thnk.
