Title: Politics
CalleighElleDakota - November 23, 2007 10:00 AM (GMT)
Here you can discuss everything concerning politics which you have on your mind...
What do you think for example about the "Patriots Act"? Or the American "constitutional right of self-defense" (the one which gives every American adult the right to own a firearm)?
I love this show! - November 23, 2007 02:40 PM (GMT)

I know what you mean, discussion about politics are usually getting very heated...But I'm just a very curious kid...
JulieFan - November 27, 2007 03:34 PM (GMT)
When in Holland there is someone in your house and you hit him, YOU yourself get thrown in jail
CalleighElleDakota - November 27, 2007 03:59 PM (GMT)
Why? Don't you have the right to defend your household?
JulieFan - November 27, 2007 04:14 PM (GMT)
No we don't. Only if they try to kill you I guess..
Anyway if you commit murder or rape and they think you're out of your mind you don't have to go to jail, you go to TBS, to escape and kill and rape someone again until they catch you again..
CalleighElleDakota - November 27, 2007 04:26 PM (GMT)
But that is totally CRAZY! I mean when you guys try to defend your house and possessions you get arrested and in case yu a re crazy you get set free?!
Hallondrake - November 27, 2007 04:30 PM (GMT)
Youre not set free if youve been diagnosed with some mental disease, but those facilities arent as secure as prisons and youre often released earlier..
JulieFan - November 27, 2007 04:36 PM (GMT)
Man If I had a gun and I would point it at the robber and the police saw me they would probably shoot me :P
Hallondrake - November 27, 2007 04:41 PM (GMT)
Haha, I think theyd try to convince you to put down the weapon ;p
JulieFan - November 27, 2007 04:51 PM (GMT)
Sometimes I think 'are we crazy'. A couple of weeks before someone went into the police station and stabbed two officers. A female officer shot that person because he wanted to hurt her too.. Next thing you know some 'foreign people who were born in Holland' (no idea how to call it in English) who haven't fit in Dutch society yet are hating on her for shooting that guy.. HELLO he STABBED two police men!
Hallondrake - November 27, 2007 05:02 PM (GMT)
Poeople always fins a way to blame someone who has made a mistake for everything that is, has and will happen to them..
ILoveReed1988 - November 27, 2007 06:12 PM (GMT)
that female cop had a right to shoot that person if she felt like her life was being threatined...and that guy has just stabbed 2 cops..they shouldn't been hating her..people like that i dont know about them
Kyle - November 28, 2007 04:27 AM (GMT)
Well, I think we should definetely put more restrictions on guns. Like I do not oppose to a tiny hand gun, but to have these horrible strong pistols and machine guns.. Not acceptable!
I think if we ban guns though, then people will just sneak it through our borders(as they do with drugs) and then not only will typical guns come, but other destructive devises will seep through. So I do not think we should ban all guns.. Just most!
As for shooting others to defend yourself.. Ah, I would never do it. But if there is a 60 year old grandma who has no criminal record, and a man tries to burn down her house, and she defends herself.. She should not be in jail for the rest of her life! But she better have a good reason why she shot him!
As for the patriot act.. It is ridiculous. Our country has survived for 300 years without spying on our people.. We do not need to do such now. It is disgusting that they think it is ok to wiretap and spy on people without a warrant! Also, it gives the president way too much power.. Like did you know that with the patriot act, the president can have ANYONE arrested for like 9 months without a reason! It is terrible!
The USA government is getting corrupted because of these crazy people like cheyney and bush. We need change, and now. I mean can you believe it.. The Euro is almost twice as much as the US dollar now! :( In the 80's, an American could go to Europe for literally just a few hundred bucks. The stores LOVED taking US dollars because it gave them so much income. And now, it costs like $5 USD to buy a soda in Europe! I mean we have to do something about our economy.
Our conservative government is getting NOTHING done. I mean what significant changes have we made? Let's see.. Since bush, a war has been started killing nearly a million people, he makes this "no child left behind" act that has no logic.. Get this.. All states are now required to give a standardized test. IF a school does bad on the test, instead of the state giving the school more money to help get more teachers and tutorials, they CUT your funding. It is ludacris!
did you know, that the average class size at my school is 33 students? Yet the law is 21 students per class.. We have 12 students over the law because of the lack of teachers! And so we are doing worse on our tests.. Yet they want to CUT FUNDING for my school, and have us have even LESS teachers? How silly!
Our government needs to make some major changes!
JulieFan - November 28, 2007 10:49 AM (GMT)
That the dollar is so low is bad for you guys and good for me :P I can buy a lot more clothes now B)
CalleighElleDakota - November 28, 2007 12:19 PM (GMT)
Kyle you're so right! But in one point I have to correct you - Bush started two wars <_<
This guy is so crazy...But the next elections are coming up, so...
And the fact that the USD is so low is horrible - it doesn't do our economy any good...
Do you mean the SAT test?
You know, I own a coin from 1964 -with Kennedy engraved on it...
One other thing - Does anyone of you know why the USA and Cuba have so many issues with each other?
JulieFan - November 28, 2007 01:53 PM (GMT)
Wow look at this!
100.00 USD = 67.7777 EUR
CalleighElleDakota - November 28, 2007 03:35 PM (GMT)
JulieFan - November 28, 2007 04:37 PM (GMT)
woohoo not for me :P it's kind of mean of me wanting to have the dollar so low (A)
Luna - November 28, 2007 04:57 PM (GMT)
I personally think that having a gun shouldn't be permitted, how many people get killed by them? How many children decide to go play with daddy's gun? How many bullied teenagers wanted to make a end on that bullying?
Ofcourse people have to be able to defend themselves, but really is America such a safe country and do those gun's really make it saver? Didn't have that impression.
Like in the episode after Revelation's, that man feared his family was in danger, shot an police-officer that happened to be black. That was a wasted life, people who aren't trained on dangerous situations while make bad judgement call's.
I don't have a gun, and I would feel terrified if I did.
About the patriot act…have to admid, don't know to much about it, but I had the empression that it was going to jail without trial, spying on America's own citizens and that kind of things, but just when it's concidered terrorism?
Well I in that case, that it's against your own human rights to have a fair trial, how can you defend yourself if you don't have that? You also have a right of privacy, which I think is one of the most important rights, I'm always amazed that the free world many times tries to do the same as they do in dictatures, but then think it's okay.
And about terrorism, I think that it's to much used as a pick up line, people are to afraid, people shouldn't be naïve, but why all the fear? Why do politicians use it so much? Terror, isn't it the governments that make people afraid, the idea 'if you don't do like we want' of course don't turn a blind eye, but it's not fight terroism at all costs, and depriving someone from the rights of fair trial's and privacy IS fighting at all costs and in my book unacceptable.
(but like I said before I do not know much about the Patriot act, so I can totally be mistaken, do know I hate the name :P )
Hallondrake - November 28, 2007 05:08 PM (GMT)
Im defeniatly for a gun ban. I dont think that anyone, but those who need one for work and hunters, should have one. I have thousands of reasons, here are some:
a) theres an unnecessary risk that ones kid could get their hands on it
B) guns are far more dangerous than many other weapons
c) Its not only a matter of education, its about beeing mentally fit for using it as well
d) Legal gun trade makes it easier for unfit people to get their hands on a gun
e) an everyday person dont NEED a gun
Now, I know that its not just to ban people from getting guns and everything will be fine. Americans, for example, have been allowed to own guns for a long time, and i suppose that many who has guns thinks that they need one (they dont though). Illegal gun trade will surely exist (be a problem), allthough I believe that in the long run people will adapt to new system and theyll discover that things will be better without guns. And yes, you dont need a gun to kill someone, but its often the easiest weapon to kill someone with since its "just" to pull the trigger. Killing someone with a knife for example, is both more physically and mentally challenging...
CalleighElleDakota - November 29, 2007 04:24 PM (GMT)
Well, I agree with you not everyone should be able to possess a gun - but I also think that there can be situations when you NEED one...I mean if someone breaks into your home you should have the right to defend yourself.
In my opinion guns shouldn't be banned - but there should be more restrictions, like a psychological evaluation and stuff like this, before you can get a gun...
JulieFan - November 29, 2007 06:08 PM (GMT)
We have lived without guns all our lives and it didn't affect us negatively.
ILoveReed1988 - November 29, 2007 07:33 PM (GMT)
over here you gotta be over 21..and have a license for the gun to have one
JulieFan - November 29, 2007 07:58 PM (GMT)
Yes, that is good because can you imagine 5 year olds carrying guns :P
CriminalMind - November 29, 2007 07:59 PM (GMT)
I may be speaking out in the minority here, but had to say about the gun restrictions:
I'm all for gun allowance, but, have more restirctions. Over here, you'r not allowed to own a gun, yet in the lats year, I think nearly 100 teenagers, maybe even plus, have been shot, in street violence, with guns. How does that work, if we're not allowed them? So, if not allowing guns doesn't work, allow them, and restric them. It's the same with anything. You tell a child no, 9 time sout of 10, they'll disobey you, it's human nature. Look at Holland (I think, don't sue if I've got this wrong!)-the legal age kids can start having sex is, what, 14? And they have one of the lowest teen pregnacy rates in the world. So, because they know about it, and are allowed to do it, there's not so much trouble with it.
I may be totally wrong here, but seeing it from a viewpoint of having a gun intolerant nation, I can see the up side to restrictions, not a total ban.
To be honest, I think governements are now just trying to use terrroism to flaunt their election speeches (I'm spekaing about English politicians, not US ones, have no idea about those guys). People are so afraid, yet the thing that's got out of hand is teen violence. The 'terroist nations' are quiet, they've been bombed, and thousands of brave men have died, and for what? We didn't get less terror threats, we got more, we didn't get oil, we didn't get WMDs, we got nothing out of it, except heartache and suffering. Every 2 months, my family go through that heartache, for a 2 monthly period, and it's awful. We're going out for the sake of killing, and that's t5he most despicable thing our government can do, It's murder, by our governments, but no one can see past their fear to see it. [/rant]
^^OMG I'm so sorry, i didn't realise I'd rant so much!!! Meant to be my views, not me being on the attack!!!
ILoveReed1988 - November 29, 2007 08:29 PM (GMT)
my cousin was shot with a gun...he was handicapped and was lookin for something on a shelf and he picked the gun up and it went off ..shot him in the face
Hallondrake - November 29, 2007 08:44 PM (GMT)
Well defending yourself with a gun if someone brakes in to your house is just stupid. Theres a great risk that someone will be shot, and in my opinion, no one deserves to die. No one.
And this about restrictions, bans, etcetera. I truly believe that banning guns will reduce violence. Allowing guns is a risk, theres no doubt about that. And I dont think comparing legal sex age with guns is possible. Having sex isnt dangerous, guns are.
JulieFan - November 29, 2007 08:48 PM (GMT)
Anyway I don't hope they will ever allow guns in Holland, if they try something like that I'm sure there will be demonstrations!
Hallondrake - November 29, 2007 08:54 PM (GMT)
Well, i dont think thats such a big risk, i mean, both holland and sweden are doing fine without them, so we dont have any reason for allowing them :P Hopefully ^^
JulieFan - November 29, 2007 08:59 PM (GMT)
Yes, now all we need to do is get the violent kids off the street. We even have 'bloods' now!!! Not as fanatic as in America but still very scary!
Hallondrake - November 29, 2007 09:02 PM (GMT)
JulieFan - November 29, 2007 09:23 PM (GMT)
The Bloods are one of Los Angeles , California street gangs. They are identified by the red color worn by their members, and their gang symbol is the word "blood" spelled out with their hands. Since their formation the Blood gangs have branched out throughout the United States, and have even influenced youth groups using the same name in Europe.
Entertainers with Bloods affiliations
* B-Real (89th Street Family Bloods)[3]
* DJ Quik (Tree Top Pirus)[4]
* Suge Knight (Mob Pirus)[5]
* The Game (Cedar Block Pirus)[6]
* Mack 10 (Queen Street Bloods)
Hallondrake - November 29, 2007 09:31 PM (GMT)
ah ok..We dont really have youth gangs here (small internal groups of kids, sure, but not really gangs) maybe the neo-nazis though.. Youth violence exists, and is a huge problem, it was just a couple of weeks ago a 16 y/o kid was killed on his way home from a birthday party.. I havnt really heard of any gangs anyway..
ILoveReed1988 - November 30, 2007 03:35 PM (GMT)
we dont really have gangs here this is kentucky and i live in a very small town..Soooo...LOL...no gangs thank god

I wasn't trying to compare legal sex age with guns. Sorry fi it came across that way. (Seriously, I don't word very well on forums, lol). I was hoping to get across the point of 'if it's restricted, people want it more' sorta thing.
Also, guns aren't dangerous, to a certain extent. It's the people working them that are dangerous. And sex can be dangerous. What about all the STIs/STDs, AIDs, HIV and so on? Those can end people's lifes, just as gun shots can.
Also, Amanda, I'm sorry about your cousin, were they OK? :(
