Former "Malcolm in the Middle" star Frankie Muniz is making a rare return to television with a guest starring role on "Criminal Minds."
The Golden Globe and Emmy Award nominee will play a famous comic book artist who helps the team investigate a Los Angeles serial killer.
The episode will air Wednesday, Nov. 28 on CTV. Check your local listings for details.

"Criminal Minds" follows a special FBI team, the Behavioral Analysis Unit, who are called in when mysterious deaths overwhelm local law enforcement officials.

Inside sources have speculated that this episode of "Criminal Minds" will be unlike any seen before.

Besides "Malcolm," the formerly fresh-faced 21-year-old has starring in films "Deuces Wild" and "Agent Cody Banks."

Sporting a goatee, Muniz may be using his turn on "Criminal Minds" as a way to re-launch his career in a grittier direction. Last season "Dawson's Creek" James Van Der Beek went to the dark side on "Minds" in a similar guest starring role.

Muniz will be appearing in an upcoming film entitled "My Sexiest Year."

Another guest star coming up on "Criminal Minds" is actor Nicholas Brendon ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer). He'll play Kevin Lynch, a computer expert who joins the BAU.

I hope so! After last night's episode (Penelope) I loved him! He was so great. I wonder if he would be like Hayley and just show up every once in awhile or he'd be in a lot of episodes (even just for a scene or two)

And speaking of which.....is Hayley out of the show now?

ILoveReed1988 - November 22, 2007 10:07 PM (GMT)
i dont know about haley i havent heard anything...

ac5000 - November 22, 2007 11:29 PM (GMT)
man...im i the only person who doesn't want Kevin Lynch to "join" the team?...i just thnk it will throw the entire team off.

As for Frankie Muniz...i saw the previews...he looks scary!

Special Agent Jentzer - November 22, 2007 11:56 PM (GMT)

Yes and the story is even more creepy...malcolm would like us to take him much more seriously as an actor.....shedding the "middle boy image"

Well he does work for the FBI right?

I'm OK for him to be "the boyfriend", working up on the 7th floor with homeland security..... but NO WAY to joining "the team"!!

Oh I don't want him joining the team! They wouldn't need two techs anyway. But I think it would be great if he and Garcia bumped into each other in the hallways - passing computer notes??? A phone call here and there. Can you imagine Garcia answering the phone thinking it's him and it turns out to be Morgan or Strauss again? I think it could be fun.

it looks really creepy! im excited to see it

is Garcia going to be back in this eppy?...does anyone know?...or is she going to be on leave, because you can't just come back after you've been shot. unless they do a time lapse in between.

linny - November 26, 2007 10:00 PM (GMT)
Looks good :D !! I can't wait to see it. Looks creepy!

but I still see him as Malcom ............ but I love him. Hoping he will really suprise me :D

It's gonna be good! can't wait til tonite.

So...what did everyone think about tonight's episode? I started off disappointed because I don't think Garcia is too interested in Kevin Lynch anymore. :( I wonder if we'll ever even see him again?

Then I wasn't liking Reid. (this was an obnoxious Reid episode) I don't like it when they make him annoying and he gets on everyone's nerves so no one wants to be around him. :(

The story itself was just weird. I knew right away Vicky was either imaginary or dead, we knew something was wrong with Johnny we just didn't know what. I just wasn't finding it very exciting.

Just an okay episode for me.

ac5000 - November 29, 2007 04:34 AM (GMT)
was it more of a character piece or a case piece?

Special Agent Jentzer - November 29, 2007 06:02 AM (GMT)

Season one called.....they want their show back.... :(

I love this show! - November 29, 2007 12:30 PM (GMT)
Way off topic but did anyone notice the guy in the comic book store (with the blue hair) looked like Bart Simpson's friend? Do you think it's the look he was going for?

**spoilers**

ac - it wasn't a character episode. Half the episode was experiencing the murders through the killer's eyes but since he had gone psycho and was a comic artist it was as he was seeing it so he thought he was fighting werewolfs or something. And then he kept reliving one scene with his girlfriend over and over again. It was weird!

The team didn't really do anything to solve the case. They set up a hotline, got a tip who it was, arrested him and got out of him where the last victim was (who was already dead) I think the cops could have handled it...they didn't need the "best minds in the country" for that. They just kept running around the city looking at gruesome crime scenes until they caught him.

ILoveReed1988 - November 29, 2007 07:32 PM (GMT)
i liked it..i didnt like they done 2 reid but was still funny..i figured either Vicky Was either dead or he made her up!!! Frankie done a amazing job

JJ_16 - November 29, 2007 11:23 PM (GMT)
This one was unlike any CM episode before it. I mean that in a good way. Frankie was great. The parts where we saw the crime scene through his eyes were freaky. I admit it i watched this one with the light on which i almost never do. Loved the moment at the end where Morgan fixed Garcia's chair. The quote they used at the end reminded me alot of Morgan, which is what Garcia said to him.
Loved the Prentiss/Rossi conversation at the end. It reminded me a bit of the one she had with Morgan in "Open Season" only deeper.

Eh...it was okay, but it wasn't one of my favorites.

I hope he pops in from time to time. I really enjoy the flirting/sparring between him and Garcia. :)

Yeah, he was a bit obnoxious, though I loved the comment JJ made after Morgan smacked him in the back of the head. I know some fans think Morgan's been a bit snarky with Reid of late, but I chalk it up to sibling-like annoyance. Honestly, it seemed as if Reid was baiting Morgan last night.

The story itself was just weird.

I found my attention waning a few times. The imaginary scenes were interesting (reminded me of Sin City), and I knew the intention was to simultaneously show what the team was doing and what was happening with FM's character, but it didn't seem balanced. Does that make sense?

So while I didn't think it was a horrible ep, it wasn't one that grabbed me, either.

I love this show! - November 30, 2007 12:57 AM (GMT)
That made sense....it did to me anyway.

It was okay, but it definitely wasn't one of my favorite episodes. In fact I think it would be towards the bottom of my least favorites list, but it wasn't horrible. It just wasn't really keeping my attention either. The last few episodes were so good I think I just felt very let down after that one.

linny - November 30, 2007 02:52 AM (GMT)
Frankie was great in the episode. Episode itself was so not my favorite. It felt weird and clumsy. Reminded me of some Manga episode my friend showed me. It was a disappointment.

ac5000 - November 30, 2007 05:18 AM (GMT)
yeh...just watched it...

gotta say...it ties with Honor Among Theives for "getting taped over"...i get that the writers were trying to get us to become attached to the unsub..make us feel something for him, but it just didn't go well...and we barely got to see our team.

plus, the our team was WAY out of character. Reid was getting to be really annoying and Garcia was a little bit off. Plus, JJ cutting Reid off at the end was just ruuuude.

Luna - November 30, 2007 11:58 PM (GMT)
I did like the episode.
I felt so bad for Johnny.
Thought the conversations between Morgan and Reid were great, specially when he slaps Reid :P and then Reid going to JJ…so cute.
I also like Morgan being still so protective with Garcia.
But it wasn't one of the greatest episodes, I liked the style, it just didn't totally feel like a Criminal Minds episode…

"getting taped over"...

What! Oh no! I don't tape over any episodes! Pam would have a fit if any of the CM episodes got taped over!

I still haven't written the episode recap for this one....I'm having trouble getting motivated to write this one. <_< I'll work on it.

I don't know that I like Morgan being SO overprotective of Garcia. Would he have the choice to not go with the team on a case? I'm glad Garcia told him to go.

Special Agent Jentzer - December 2, 2007 04:18 AM (GMT)
Although the episode was different, reflecting on the unsub, I just didn't buy into all the swords and wolves.....I see mr ed wrote and directed it.....I don't know, perhaps it was malcolm.....(the voice)

I thought everyone seemed in a bad mood....JJ, Garcia, Reid, Morgan....and as funny as this might sound...prentiss was no where to be found....

I'd tape over it.....again I guess I'm a season 1 lover...(and not just cause...)
but because of the show....

I want it to be like Silence of the Lambs not Xman in the Middle???

ac5000 - December 2, 2007 08:53 AM (GMT)
lol...i didn't even realize that Emily wasn't there... but then again, we barely got to see any of our team. it was basically flashbacks of things we've already seen throughout the episode.

I love this show! - December 2, 2007 03:56 PM (GMT)
I think that's why it wasn't an exciting episode. The team really wasn't doing anything (well....Reid was annoying everyone! - including me!) We already knew who the unsub was and it was pretty easy to guess why he was doing what he was doing. It was a really boring story! Maybe the writers thought the sword fighting with imaginary werewolves would be exciting??? (I wasn't too impressed) I don't find the blood and gore entertaining. I like the process of them thinking through the profile and figuring out how to catch the unsubs.

Even the ending seemed clumsy and awkward. Emily rehashing her thoughts about how different are they from the unsubs. And would they allow a patient in a mental hospital/prision (he was behind bars) a personal cell phone?

With only a few precious episodes left this season I hope the next ones are better quality than this one.

This season has been very hit and miss for me. They've had some good ones but they've had a few bad ones too. But I still can't bring myself to tape over it! That would ruin my complete collection!

Special Agent Jentzer - December 2, 2007 05:18 PM (GMT)
I'm kidding, I won't tape over it! I watched it again last night....

Yes Pam on the cell phone thing!! And my whole thought process was if he is in a padded room, all white, suffering from severe trauma and all that other stuff....I'm certain giving him the cell phone, and letting him draw hundreds of pictures of Vicki is not really controlled therapy??

When the opening scene started and the whole Dick Tracy (actually I don't think it's dick tracy but you know...Mulholland Drive-ish) ....thing started to happen....the music....it was a cold dark night, back in Los Angeles, we see the creepy X-men drawings, then we cut to the heavy metal, black and white, thrusts and slices of yes...more heavy metal, and the howling wolves...???

I thought I had it on the wrong channel??

I love this show! - December 2, 2007 06:31 PM (GMT)
I just hope the next episode is better. Let's see, we have ten days to wait for that?

I was laughing that one of the previews I saw for that episode said something about it was unlike anything that had ever been done on CM before.....Well, I'm glad of that!!! And I hope they don't ever do it again! If that was the best promotion they could come up for it....

ac5000 - December 2, 2007 09:00 PM (GMT)
the promo didn't do much for me either. But im still definetly taping over it...it was terrible! (fine...maybe im exaggerating....), but usually im super excited after seeing previews for the next episode.

ILoveReed1988 - December 2, 2007 11:16 PM (GMT)
i liked this episode..manyl because i love CM and franki muniz...plus like something was confuseing you didnt know if he was dreamin the girlfriend or what

Linda06 - December 3, 2007 05:25 PM (GMT)
I actually liked this ep,maybe a little disappointed that we didn't see the team so much in this ep but all in all it was good....It's the first time i've actually felt sorry for the unsub,Frankie done a bang up job here!!!

Mandarina - December 3, 2007 09:29 PM (GMT)
I know I am in a minority, but I loved this ep. Actually, I think itīs going to became one of my favorites. I know the team didnīt do almos anything, but itīs ok for once.
I liked the story, I liked the unsub and I like the manga-like aesthetics. I felt really touched all the time, I had a lump in my trhoat, really! It was so sad and tragic... *DramaQueen/Mode ON

;_____;

I'm happy because they go on to tribute to Italy, in this episode was the turn of Pinocchio  and his author, (I didn't know his real surname was Lorenzini, here is called Carlo Collodi from the name of his birth town - or his mother birth town, I'm not Reid :P )

Why always everybody, especially Morgan (I'm starting to hate him), ill-treat Reid?

I think they are meaner to him too! They have always teased him but it always seemed to me that it was "little brother" stuff, but you still knew they cared about him. Now it always seems like they're annoyed with him and don't want to be around him because he's getting on their nerves. Hard to explain the difference but I see it there.
