This band is probably one of the most loved and hated bands I know. They have dedicated fans but dedicated haters, too. They're constantly being stereotyped as 'emo', have been called 'self harm promoters' and that their fans are like a 'cult'. Not only has the band been stereotyped as emo, but the fans as well. I just wanted to say that all of that it bullsh*t.

They are an amazing band who help so many people get through tough times in their life, and just life in general. The band was created after Gerard Way (lead singer) witnessed 911 with his own eyes. He decided he wanted to make the world a better place, and the best way for him to contribute would be to start a band.

They are not 'emo'. I don't believe in 'emo', but a lot of people do. What is emo? I don't even know. There's a million definitions, but it's been defined as emotional music. Every song should have emotion in it, or else it's just a jingle. So if you put it that way, then yes, MCR is emo... but so is every other band that puts emotion into their music.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, if you believe MCR tell their fans to do self harm or any of that, you're wrong. It sucks that such an amazing band has that said about them.

So. I wanted to make a thread explaining why I think they're amazing, and hopefully some other people do, too. If you don't, that's fine, I'm not saying you have to like them, I just hope you respect my opinion. Hell, post in here telling me why you don't like them. I'd love to hear other opinions, as long as you have rational reasons for what you think. xD

I get what youre saying about emo and their 'self harming' fans. I, personally, don't feel that being labeled as 'emo' is something negative. Allthough, it seems that many consider 'emo' to be a description of something bad. I've never really heard why this (emo) should be such a bad thing. To me, emo is simply a genre just like rock, pop, hip hop, etcetera. Something used for describing a group's musical style for those who are unfamiliar with them.

The conception that emo is promoting self harm, has to come from the misconception that the audience of these bands are sucidal, depressive and self harming. I don't think that their fans are more suicidal than other kids. However, I think that they're more visible here; since it has been accepted to show your emotions you don't hide the scars on your arms. There are probably as many depressive Britney fans, as there are depressive MCR fans, they only difference is that they have dfferent behavioral norms.

What I'm trying to say is that people shouldn't get so upset by other people labeling the music you listen to. The only thing of importance here is that YOU like the music, labeling shouldn't ffect your idea of what is good and what isn't.

Ok, this is probably pretty fuzzy, but I hope you're getting what I'm trying to say :P

Personally I like some songs of them, others I don't, it's certainly not my favourite band, but I don't mind hearing songs from them.

For the rest…music is a form of art, so a band should never take the words of others into the consideration if yes or no to make a song if you ask me, I don't know if this songs will induce more selfharm, but personally I think that the selfharm would be there anyway, if it is there, with or without this (and other) band. Harming yourself is a plea for attention and a way to be part of a group, the music is also a way to be part of a group.
Also I don't know if people who like this music a lot are more depressed then those who don't, it isn't very cheerful music, so maybe, but from very chearful music you also can get depressed :P

Well the reason I see emo as a bad thing is because when I figured out what it ment my friend defined it as like... "people who wear all black and are depressed and listen to music all the time and are like 'omg life sucks'" so I was like :/ when I found out people think MCR is emo because they aren't like that at all. xD

And I'm not really upset. It's annoying but I don't care. I love them and I'm not going to stop because of some stereotype. I was just trying to explain why I don't think they are emo. :P

As for the general crowd thing, I guess it's because they make songs like Famous Last Words which really give hope to a lot of people. I know so many people who claim that song saved their life. I guess that gets around and people think all the fans are suicidal, ect. :rolleyes:

Frank is like 5'4 or 5'5. Omg did you watch the video with Marilyn Manson and he was talking about Frank, and he said he was legally a dwarf. And apparently Manson thinks they stole his style or something, so he tried to get into a fight with them, but Frank just went up to him and tried to be nice about it and asked if they had a problem, but in the interview, Manson said Frank went up to him and said sorry, as if he was scared or something. But he really didn't. And Manson was all, "Yeah, I was like 'good, you better be sorry or I would kick your ass.'" He's such a tard. Frankie owns him.
