Title: Legacy
I love this show! - May 9, 2007 11:58 AM (GMT)
I thought we might try something new with tonight's episode. Besides leaving our comments about the episode - how about a little poll to rate how much we liked it.
LeucaBleu - May 9, 2007 06:55 PM (GMT)
Nice idea.
I'll be sure to track my rear end back here after the show. :)

***SPOILERS***
I don't know what to think of that episode. My initial reaction was that I didn't like it.
That was seriously the most disturbing episode I've seen. It was just weird! The cop was weird (and they never really explained him other than he just had OCD) The head detective and his reaction was weird. The unsub himself was weird.....and we didn't really learn anything about him or why he was doing what he was doing - just mentally ill. The victim was weird - another reaction when it was over that I totally didn't get (I was still trying to figure out the girl from Open Season) She said she won....yeah, but kind of by default - she didn't do anything to defeat him....they just managed to save her before he killed her. What was the point of the episode? Any theme or message? Did we learn anything?
Even the whole thing with Charlie Chaplin I found strange....I mean I get the point - they needed something funny to lighten the mood. I don't know it just didn't seem to fit. (and I would have gone with "I Love Lucy!" :D )
I got more of a smile out of the prostitutes propositioning Reid. And did all you "shippers" catch J.J. throwing popcorn at him at the end? And Morgan eating Garcia's licorice?
I didn't like it! I think it moved to my all-time least favorite episode.
I'm sure curious to know what everyone else thought.
CriminalMindsFan - May 10, 2007 02:13 AM (GMT)
Darnit, I missed the first 1/2 hour because I was working. Was their anything cool or anything that the characters did in that time? ;) It was kind of violent and creepy, but then again, this is Criminal Minds. The last 2 weeks have also had really weird reaction when they're saved. They seem almost evil. I also think that Prentiss really added to her character when she said all those nice things about Morgan. :D That was so sweet. I have to say, right when I was beginning to lose my faith in the writing and the character interaction on Criminal Minds, they have a scene like that last one with the movie. :D I loved the Morgan/Garcia licorice thing and also JJ throwing the popcorn at Reid. Plus, we got to see Hotch smile :o and there was also a big old smile on Gideon's face which made me really happy because I was beginning to think he wasn't human.
Anyway, good eppy!

-spoiler-
i thought it was great. although i did find it rather wierd that they just found this random guy, and all of a sudden they find the suspect. and i also found it rather unrealistic for 63 people to go missing and no reports go out. but otherwise then reality, i thought it was great! lol
LeucaBleu - May 10, 2007 04:06 AM (GMT)
I realize that I was picking out college classes for the first half hour, but I still didn't like it that well.
It's like they came up with the yuckiest, scariest, most disturbing villain their brains could handle and then built an extremely lame story around him.

I can understand if all 63 were homeless, 'cause their families had lost track of them, but someone had to miss at least one of the "scarlet women"
I totally missed the licorice bit, but I did recognize Mandy's laughter at the end. Very distinctive. ^_^

Vaguely...and I've never even seen that movie.
Oh, and did I mention that I think that's the first ep where I spent the nasty parts clutching a couch pillow to my chest? And digging my nails in, occasionally?
Special Agent Jentzer - May 10, 2007 06:08 AM (GMT)
I thought it was the best episode "post elle", I loved it.
(I dont count the super bowl episodes because thoses were"the reid show") but I thought it had everything I missed from season one (except elle heehee lol
I voted "Excellent!".

Weird because this is the first time ILTs and I have totally disagreed
What I loved the Most:-JJ and Hotch, now that is a 'ship I could learn to love!! Their mutually admiration, respect, and trust...
(***key side note** HATE ships, so maybe it's JJ, she is kind, and respectful, and really so more more important than they give her credit for, hotch does!!).
-Gideon.....laughing......loved it,
(maybe cause I know he is in for a shitty week next week
-What A Lovely sound...at the end, everyone enjoying, laughing....reminded me off when they were in NYC at the Chinese Restaurant....just showing a lighter side, a "let down your guard" moment!
-OK, the gore was some of the worst we have "seen", although it seems a lot was left to our imagination, not liking that table saw.
-And the glass, PAINFUL!! Ouch, that made me CRINGE!!!
God, I get a paper cut and I scream like a baby, I thought my tatoos were bad...that is JUST OUCH, OUCH, OUCH!!

-For a "whore" (his words), very pretty girl, a little dirty, but perfect skin, beautiful smile...OK did not see a lot of smiling, but great teeth, nice perfect eye brows??
(would not have her babysitting "mother" reported her missing??)
-Loved "the team" (so many great moments)
-PRENTISS, Ready, Aim, FIRE!!!! She shot to kill!!
-"Cleaning House", that is what the name of the epsiode should have been.
-Whats with the "Man Eating Guard Dogs" again...
-Not one single really clever Garcia line.... :(
So yup, I really enjoyed this episode, and frankly this has been down to the wire. I fretted all day because I really just wanted to watch my favorite show...and enjoy it. And I did.
And ms emily, today you seemed real, you "fit in", instead of "standing out", major major points for that.

I think this episode sort of reminded me of "extreme aggressor", with the cruelty level, and the very weak Richard Slessman/Steven Foster and the stronger Unsub.
Wow

Wow

Glad I wasn't the only one thinking that! I was seriously thinking that the whole episode. Saw was just way creepier and had more gore. I made it through the gore scenes of this episode (they weren't that bad), but I've never been able to get past thirty minutes of Saw.
I thought the episode was okay. It didn't keep my attention like most episodes do. Apparently, I missed the scene where the prostitute (or is it prostitutes?) flirted with Reid, which sucks because I've been looking forward to that scene since I saw the spoilers for this episode.
Did they ever really explain what was up with that detective, besides him being OCD? He was just plain weird. I kept thinking that he would turn out to be the unsub during the first half of the episode.
The only scene I really loved was the ending one. It was just cute to see everyone spending time together and having fun. JJ throwing popcorn at Reid was so in character and funny. Morgan taking a bite off of Garcia's licorice was beyond cute.
Maybe I should rewatch the episode because I really didn't pay that much attention to it.

Have I fallen into a parallel universe? Jentzer and I disagree AND she is saying nice things about Emily Prentiss? *insert "Twilight Zone music here*
I did like the group moments. Hotch's comment toward J.J. (If Hayley dumps Hotch this could be the new "ship" to watch.) Hope not...don't like those but.... And I liked the group hanging out together and having fun it just felt "off" to me for some reason. The only part of the crime that interested me was the part where he told her she had until sunset to find her way out and left her shoes at the end (but that seemed awfully close to last week's story - maybe that's part of why I didn't like it.)
I don't know......I think I'm just looking forward to the next episode.
ac5000 - May 10, 2007 02:33 PM (GMT)
i liked this episode. Last week i said that there wasn't enough suspense...THIS week, i was terrified. The end scene was probably the best though. yes, i caught the popcorn throwing between Reid and JJ. Its been a while since ive gotten any Reid/JJ scenes so this was a nice treat. It was good to see Hotch and Gideon hanging out like old friends though. Hope Gideon relaxes: he's got a pretty rough case next week...
shawngf - May 10, 2007 03:22 PM (GMT)
Finally just got to watch the ep. Just some basic character observations - off the top-
-The opening scene with Gideon and Hotch - both men have such beautiful smiles - it's a pleasure to see them. Chaplin does nothing for me, but I like seeing that side of "mom and dad".
-The uber-hassled JJ. Paperwork everywhere, annoyed that someone is bucking not BAU procedure, but hers. Loved how she looked at the notebooks Cal put on her desk, not like "WTF are those?" but rather "more work? more paperwork? Oy". And I'm noticing a reoccurring tone from her now - she used it in REVELATIONS when she told Garcia to show her the murder video and then again last night when she asked Cal, "Okay, how many is it?" It's some kind of emotionless no-nonsense tone.
-Interesting to me how Reid, Prentiss and Morgan jumped in right away. Believed it and got to work on it, but Gideon refused, did everything he could not to be involved until he was forced to. Makes you wonder if Gideon is headed for another breakdown.
-Loved the scene on the plane with JJ and Hotch. Mostly because I've always seen that respect he has for her. Going all the way back to first season's DERAILED when she challenged him on sending Elle on a custodial. He listens to her, gives her the floor. I said it a few posts ago, but I still think he's trying to bring her across to the profiler side. And actually, on that note, I find JJ's clarification of Cal being "clinically obsessive" to be an interesting moment. But nah, I didn't see any squicky vibes and I don't think for a moment that the show would ruin two characters(Hotch and JJ) by getting them involved in some kind of weird affair. Hotch is definitely(in my mind, anyway) parental.
-The Garcia scene- well I just adore Kirsten. She can be heartbreaking and poignant with so very little.
-I pretty much loved the hell out of Hotch in this one. Pushing the case, not getting backed down, immediately grabbing the case once it became Federal and then the interrogation of the accomplice. Oh and of course the "Reid's getting hit on by every prostitute" line was beautiful, delivered with precise timing.
-Morgan tackling the van. Now I'm ruined on that scene. Really enjoyed the one leading up to it with him and the old lady and Prentiss. In the original script, there was some flirting in there between Prentiss and Morgan. In any case, yeah, like Prentiss, like y'all, I agree - Morgan is a good guy and I think being around him would just make you feel safe, protected and a little more loved.
-The final wrap- a bit cheesy(ok, a lot cheesy), but I'm ok with it. These people need to smile. They need their moments where they can be silly and sane and normal. And that involves throwing popcorn and laughing at slapstick. But yeah, the popcorn part definitely made my shipper side squeal with delight. I love me those crazy kids.
All in all, not my favorite ep of the series, but an enjoyable hour that I can rewatch and probably will a few times.

This is the first moment I picked up on this "administrative admiration" as well. She did it a few weeks back, (can't remember the episode), but she turned and gave Hotch "the look". JJ is one smart cookie, very nice to see.
And I really am seeing TG as "hotch", not "greg", took me awhile...lol, but he is an amazing actor.
And bring on the "cheese", our team has had a rough year, next week will be a tough one as well.
Note** and of in the land of "what ifs", ANGRY we missed "Doubt", we was robbed!! A serial killer is a serial killer, "Legacy" was a very big gore fest. Its TV?? I'm not sure we would have seen anything more, if viewed??
(Last week we saw some interaction with the girls, this week Hotch/Gideon and the whole team......Did we miss anything else due to this cancelled epi??)
And as for Emily, lol, I just got a TEAM feel for this one. Everyone jumped on board....literally (morgan), they came into someone elses backyard, quietly cleaned up, and went home...its what they do best.
LeucaBleu - May 10, 2007 08:13 PM (GMT)
Sorry for screwing up the poll...I merged Shawn's remark about the ratings into this and it tossed out the poll. :(
~)~
The group bonding time at the end was lovely, I agree, especially with all the trash ahead.
And can anyone figure out why this was called "Legacy"? I agree that "Cleaning House" or similar would've been a better choice.
shawngf - May 10, 2007 08:15 PM (GMT)
In the original script, the Unsub's family lineage was a lot more...fleshed out. Apparently he was the fourth generation of his family to live in the city and he and his ancestors considered the vagrants and such to be an insult to their legacy.

Their was a comment made about "getting all the money" so this guy had nothing better to do than spend his inheritance on"cleaning up the city" lol

I feel like all I've done is complain about this episode but......
What was Gideon's problem? Especially since he got after them about not having enough to work on but he was watching old movies?
Special Agent Jentzer - May 10, 2007 11:02 PM (GMT)
Yes that was a weird one....but then I loved their answer (emily). Hey, maybe he has a new girlfriend and he is thinking of her!! And instead of any new jobs, he just wants to get the work day done and home to her......(play creepy music here!)
I was thinking, last weeks "victim" got away, this weeks victim got away. I thought she had better "survival skills" this week.
At the begining I got a very "Frank Vibe" sort of feeling as well. Didn't he carve up his victims in his "Jet Stream" Trailor. The whole sanitized environment (suit/hoses/drains/metal) reminded me of Franks set up.
Still can't get over that glass floor?
Near the end when she saw the "exit" sign and you get that little "hope" feeling "snuff", gone, very mean I thought, and then she saw her shoes...slight glimmer of new hope......"snuff"...then the sunset/rise door scene...slam!! Holy, gives new meaning to "toying" with your vics!
Makes me feel really bad for Gideons girlfriend!! :ph43r: whoever she may be?lol
I love this show! - May 10, 2007 11:14 PM (GMT)
It was a lot like Frank's set up (shiver!) WAY too creepy! I was freaked out by the number of shoes lined up there.
I agree this victim had better survival skills. The unsub wasn't playing very fair was he.....the glass room and no shoes and what was the gas he kept pumping into rooms?
I liked the suspense factor just not the pure violence and gore. That old man in the beginning freaked me out! And all the blood in the drain. Gross!
The previews had Frank asking where Jane is......I wonder where she went and why would he allow her to leave? (unless he killed her?)
I love this show! - May 11, 2007 12:15 AM (GMT)
I just started watching it again.....it's even creepier! (the old man's comments make sense now.) When you first watch it you don't know what he's referring to.....after you know what the unsub is doing to his victims.....freaky!

~shudder~ You mean creepier than it already was??? Um, I think I'll pass.
I can't say that I really disliked the entire ep, but it certainly won't rank among my favorites. The broken glass part was painful to watch, and I'd be happy if I never saw that scene again.
I agree that those last comments the victim directed at the killer were a bit odd. After she uttered, "I won!" my sister turned to me and asked, "Do you think she's related to the chick from last week?" Hmm.
I loved the closing scene with the Chaplin movie. After the horrors of that particular case, a let's-unwind-together session would be a necessity! :)

I thought the same thing! The whole - unsub captures victim, gives them a chance to escape, hunts them down, they survive and claim victory scenario sounded awfully familiar.
This episode just seemed even creepier than Open Season.

I loved Reid and the prostitutes!

Yeah....this one wasn't my favorite either. It was very gross and creepy. (worse than normal anyway....I don't really need to see that much gore) And I think the two episodes Open Season and Legacy had a lot of the same storyline. Maybe I would have liked it better if they hadn't been back to back but of the two I liked Open Season better.

I was screaming and all. and i was practically jumping when she nearly reached the door to freedom. I was like "come on! come on! stand!! fight! fight!!!!! just a bit more!! stand uppp!"
