Title: Cut Scenes

Vorster - January 2, 2008 04:01 AM (GMT)
Mods I have an offer for you blokes. Instead of using game footage for cutscenes use real video footage. I have hours of footage from the bushwar and of SA equipment in action. I have also been promised rare footage shot during Op Modular and Hooper which has never been released and which might be added to our book.

I am willing to tjop up the footage into bite size chunks to use as cut scenes. I don't think there will be copy right issues as the mod will be free ware.

This will give the mod a very nice feel I think.

Yeah but how to display it in game?

bluedingo - January 2, 2008 01:50 PM (GMT)
I was talking to someone and he said you could capture each frame as a .jpg and cycle through them, and play the sound separately. He recommended this tool: Virtual Dub which seems to do the frame-capture for you. We could possibly do a narrated history this way.

That would make the mission files waaayyy too large. There would be hundreds of different images. It requires too much work. Sorry, but we're going to make cutscenes using the ArmA engine.

Would have been great if we could make it work though... But alas our mod will rival the real thing in every way, MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!!!

ahem......er...sorry. (goes and sits innocently in the corner again...)

Just a suggestion. All righty then I will keep my footage to myself. ;) Ungrateful so and sos. He he i can't sell the dvds but I can give them to whom ever wants them. Contact me in private if you are intrested.

At a later stage some of the footage could be used for some MOD promo videos. As Rellikki says it will be impossible to use with the ArmA missions due to the size incrementation in the files. However with ArmAII things will be a bit different so we can relook at your great idea.

I just want to add a few word for other readers as well. People make sugestions and send us ideas etc. most of them to do with realism and acuracy. There are limitations to the amount of modifications we are able to do, also some of it can be done but is not possible at all due to adverse effects ingame and I will give an eg.

With the Pumas I have been asked to put some soldiers seated in the doorway as was practiced in real life during the Bushwar. I could do that but the soldiers are not able to fire from that position (soldiers can not fire from inside a vehicle - ArmA limitation) so will only be targets for ground fire and can easily be killed with out being able to return fire. That is the reason for me not adding those possitions to the Puma cargo.

We do our best to be as authentic as possible but gentlemen please bear in mind that the game does have some limitations and inherent bugs.

ObMar I was just joking. Firing from the door was in any way a no no in the SADF due the possibility of making a nice hole in the tjopper. They sat in the door for two reasons 1. Quick exit 2. To keep cool.

No problem Voster... I'm still in two minds about adding those possitions. There is a plus for visual effects but a minus for game play. I will release the Pumas with our new pilots on the weekend, just doing some minor bug fixes and some rescripting.

ObMar have a chat with Falcon I sent him some wav files of the olifant including the engine, main gun firing a sabot, the engagement sequenc in afrikaans (teiken tenk sabot op. Sabot op!) and the radio chatter and battle sounds during a combined arms stormbaan of Ratels, Olifante and infantry.

I will try and get him the engine and weapon sounds of a Ratel and Noddy Car by tonight. I also have a 40mm AGL somewhere.
