Hi this is very exciting I never thought that I would be able to play a game of a war I took part in.
I did my second year of National Defense Force at 61 Mechanized battalion just outside Oshivelo. I was trained in Ratel 60 & 90 gunner (1986) later Ratel 20(1987) as the Ratel 60 was replaced as platoon commander vehicle. The 90mm still my favorite.
I took part in operation Modular 1987.
We helped UNITA push MPLA and others back. We pushed enemy from Jamba as far as Cuito Cuanavale where our tour ended and we were relieved..
The Air force, 32 Battalion, 61 Mech, 101 battalion not sure of which other regiments. There were also Tank, G6 canon and Recon that I can remember of.
This was the first ops that Tanks and the G6 were mobilized.
We 61 mech Bravo Co (infantry Ratel 20) and Golf Co (infantry anti tank Ratel 90) were assigned to 32 battalions anti tank units we were later joined by a squadron of Olifant Tanks
look forward to taking Ratel into action again.
Hope I can help by try making some authentic tank fight scenarios that I can remember.

Hi mate,

do you have any photos of the Jamba region, would help for the development of our map. Just want to see terrain detail. Also need some info or pics of actual Ratel crew to make our crew models as accurate as possible

Hi

Unfortunately no photos of Angola. I will try and track some pictures of Ratel crew. May be in JHB in November and will try to get to the war museum and take some interior vehicle photos for you.
