Description: Part 2 of my story

Here is the second part of my story... Hope you like :)

------

Anna had often spoken to them of her cousin Simone, referring to her as the ‘Wicked Witch of the West’. Simone was born by her relatives in what was then West Germany, while Anna grew up in the East. When Germany was reunified the two families decided to live together and Anna and Simone were forced to share a room. Anna had often complained about Simone – her lack of hygiene, her constant complaining and disheveled appearance. “She looks like a toad that has been eaten and then shat out by a bear in a dumpster”, Anna would often say. Blair remembered at once the time Anna had tearfully revealed to her that Simone had discovered her penchant for cross-dressing early on and outed her at Christmas lunch in front of the whole family.

“She ruined my life. She ruined everything. Because of her, I have no family anymore.”

Laurel and Blair sat there in awkward silence. Simone wasn’t moving; she hadn’t even looked over in the direction of the Surf Academy. Her eyes remained focused on the pair. She watched them intently, as if awaiting a reaction.

“So who are you two? Are you friends of Anna?”

More awkward silence. Laurel looked at Blair. Blair looked at Laurel. What should we tell her?

“Er… I guess so…” mumbled Blair.

Simone seemed to take satisfaction in this. She folded her arms across her unremarkable chest and smiled.

“Good. I need to see her”
“Well, she’s not here anymore. She left two weeks ago”
“She left? Where did she go?”
“Back home to Germany… I think”

Simone’s expression suddenly changed. “She has no home in Germany”, she stated firmly.

“But…” Laurel began, but Simone wasn’t having any of it.
“Anna has no home in Germany. That is because the Anna you know is not Anna at all. The real Anna has been imprisoned these past few months in a basement in an abandoned warehouse. It is vital that I find this impostor Anna and expose her”

Blair rolled her eyes and stood up. She grabbed Laurel’s hand and pulled her up. “We’re leaving”, she announced.

“WAIT!” Simone commanded, and stepped right up to Blair. Her ugly, wart-covered face was now just centimetres away from Blair’s. Blair was treated to an unparalleled view of every premature wrinkle, ever pimple, every imperfection. Simone breathed heavily on Blair’s face. Blair recoiled in horror at the noxious gas which seemed to choke the very life from everything around it as it invaded her facial orifices.

“I must talk to you. Please, just give me 5 minutes. There is something I must tell you”
“Look, We’ve really got to get…”

Simone grabbed Blair’s arm and began to twist it. “That wasn’t a question…” she muttered, beginning to slowly drag Blair away. The sun had gone down and it was now dark. Nobody was around. Blair began to think of her options. If only I could get out of her grip, I could make a run for it… Her mind was only on the safety of Laurel. I don’t know what I’d do without her…

She didn’t need to think much longer. Laurel pushed Simone to the ground and began to run. “RUN!” she screamed at Blair. Blair needed no encouragement, but as she took off Simone stretched out a wrinkly hand and pulled her to the ground. Blair thrashed around in agony in the sand, trying to break free of the witch’s grip. She screamed out for help; but Laurel was long gone. For what seemed like an eternity she struggled, wildly kicking the air, but it was no use. Simone’s grip was far too strong.

Blair felt the grip suddenly loosen but before she could get on her feet Simone had jumped on her back. She leaned her head down so her mouth was almost touching Blair’s ear.

“I’m sorry… I’m so sorry… But you must listen to what I have to tell you. Then you may go”

Her voice was oddly cheerful. Blair didn’t know what to think. Was she joking? She decided the best thing to do was to play along.

“Ok…”
Simone was obviously worn out. She was breathing heavily and every few words were separated by a lengthy catching of breath.
“Anna may have told you that I was her cousin and that we lived together. I do have a cousin called Anna… But she is not the girl who you know”
“What?”
“Anna… Is not Anna”
“Then who is she?”

Simone dismounted and collapsed on the sand. Blair was so curious that escape didn’t even cross her mind.
“The Anna you know… Is not my cousin. Anna is really a person named Adrian”
“Adrian?”
“Her… His… Name is Adrian. He’s insane. He’s a psycho… He was convicted of murder in Germany. But he escaped before he was sent to jail… Nobody knows where he went. But then a few weeks ago my aunt – the real Anna’s aunt – received a package from someone in Blue Water. We had no idea who it was from. But I opened it up and it contained a photo of the Anna you know. I realised at once who it was, but nobody would believe me. Nobody… I went to everybody, but everybody laughed. So I realised I had to come here and find Adrian… Or Anna… and stop him”

Blair sat up. “This is ridiculous”
Simone began rumbling in her tutu-like costume. She retrieved a tattered newspaper clipping from and showed it to Blair, her mobile phone providing the necessary illumination.
“But this is…”
“That’s a photo of Adrian” announced Simone. “That’s a photo taken the day before he escaped”
“But it just looks like her…”
“Don’t you see? It IS her! Adrian fled to Australia and somehow assumed Anna’s identity”
“But you’re too late. The competition is over. Anna didn’t win”
”No… I don’t think Adrian cared about the competition. He only cares about one thing. He was arrested in Germany for murder. Of teenage girls. He only kills teenage girls…”

Blair stood up. “This is ridiculous. Seriously. I mean, if Adrian is Anna, then why wouldn’t he, or she, or whatever, have killed anyone already?”
“I don’t know. All of Adrian’s victims in Germany were blonde, attractive girls. There were none of them in the Solar Blue girls… That’s why I had to talk to you, because you seem like his type of victim. You and your friend”

One thing crossed her mind. She’s out there in the dark by herself…

Laurel.
