Well, well, well. I have been busy with all this BWH stuff.
I got inspired to write this story by the official BWH:The Novel book. Which tells everything from Fly's point of view. So I decided to do something similar and write the series from Anna's point of view, her being my fave character and all :D
I orginally wanted it to be as close to the series as possible, but then like the official book Ive decided to make some stuff up about Anna ie, her friendship with Blair (read on to find out more)
Its taken me ages, and I mean AGES to type this up. And I havent even finished the whole of episode one yet!!
With only one exam to go I will hopefully have more free time to work on this project.
So without further ado, enjoy!! Oh and let me know what you think.
She didn’t want to be here. It felt so wrong. She was scared. She glanced to the man beside her. Andrew, the head of Solar Blue, the one who wanted her to go to the academy was the one who insisted on her being here, even though he already knew that she was too scared to go back to kiteboarding professionally.
The taxi was slowing down, Anna was feeling more anxious than ever. What would the other feel about her? Andrew gave her a smile.
‘Alright, time to meet the crew’
He got out the car, she followed and fetched her suitcase.
The taxi had roller up at a huge house, one that she had only seen in magazines. She looked up to the huge house, gave a minute for herself to let it settle in her mind. This is home now. For the next 12 months.
‘C’mon, the others are waiting to meet you’ said Andrew. Anna followed him into the house. The way he said about meeting the others was positive, maybe they would be cool kids and like her. A grin covered her face. Of course she wanted to make a good impression and smiling seemed like a pretty good way to do that.
‘So you’ll all have the chance to meet him too’ a man’s voice said as Anna was entering the main room.
‘Hey, mate, how are you?’ said Andrew, shaking the other man’s hand.
‘Good, mate. Come in.’ the man replied. He stepped back to let Deb, Andrew and herself enter the room.
‘Now you all met Deb at the trials.’
‘Hi’ said Deb greeting the 6 others in the room. The man continued.
‘This is the man responsible for you all being here- Andrew Mitchell’
Andrew beamed at the crew.
‘Hi. Welcome. And this is Anna.’ Andrew pushed Anna forward.
‘Hi’ Anna said, still smiling.
She looked around the room and tuned out from what Andrew was saying as she looked to her new house mates.
The first face she saw was a smiling one. A girl with a big smile and gorgeous brown eyes and hair. Next was a boy, maybe a Maori? He gave a very small smile, like he was almost forcing the smile at her.
Anna’s nerves were kicking in again, her smile faltered.
“What if they don’t like me at all?” she began to think.
She then looked to the opposite side of the room, hoping that there were some other friendly faces.
There was another boy. He had dazzling blue eyes and messy blonde hair. He looked at her with a sense of dislike on his face.
Anna was starting to freak.
Anna looked to the boy next to the blonde who gave a side glance at the blonde. A look of uncertainty appeared on the boy’s face.
“Do I smell bad or something? Is it my dress sense? What is with these people?” These were the thoughts that were going through Anna’s head.
The last person she had to look at was a girl with dark brown hair. The girl almost gave her the evils. Those big brown eyes were full of hatred.
“What have I done?” thought Anna. She was no longer smiling, on the inside she was scared of these people, apart from the smiling girl she supposed.
‘And also, take care of Anna’ Anna heard her name mentioned from Andrew’s mouth.
‘I know a lot of you are away from home too, but she's from a lot further away.’
“Thanks Andrew” Anna thought, “Just what I needed to be reminded of.”
She listened to the rest of Andrew’s speech. She was thinking that as soon as he finished she could have some time alone, to get her head around the fact that she cannot run away from here, and to just settle.
‘Well let’s get Anna settled’ a kind looking woman said.
“Great, just what I need, more attention.” Time to put on that smile again.
‘How would you feel about helping…’ She looked around the room for the victim. ‘Edge cook our first dinner tonight?’
Well she couldn’t say ‘no’ could she? She looked around the room to see who this “Edge” was. Of course it was the blonde boy with the look of dislike etched across his face. He was staring at her with his eyes full of dislike, clearly unhappy about the decision.
Ah, well better make the most of it.
‘Great.’ She smiled.
Half an hour later and dinner was ready. Edge had insisted on cooking sausages. Anna couldn’t remember the last time she had cooked anything, and it surely wasn’t as bad as this! The results of her and Edge cooking dinner… weren’t very successful.
‘That is quite a feat’ said Heath, the part Maori boy as he snapped in half one of the burnt sausages.
He looked around at everyone. Edge clearly didn’t like anyone criticising his cooking and angrily stuffed more of the burnt snaggers in his mouth.
Heath continued.
‘I mean to burn it to the point of being snappable without causing a fire.’ He looked to Matt. ‘Amazing, really’.
Edge spoke up as everyone was still eating.
‘Ok. So it’s a little well done. Don’t eat it, alright? No one’s forcing you to eat it.’ He sounded very aggressive.
Perri, the first one to give her a smile, offered her more sausages. Anna smiled and politely declined- they tasted terrible!
Anna thought that she’d better apologise for her lousy cooking skills.
‘Sorry. Its not very good. My coach hasn’t let me near the kitchen for years.’ Her English was still a little clumsy, but they would understand.
‘How sad for you.’ Came the remark of Bec, the girl who had made her feel most uncomfortable. Bec’s tone was as cold as ice.
Anna looked down, maybe she shouldn’t of said anything at all… Not with Bec around at least.
Perri then spoke up, her tone of surprise.
‘You had a personal surfing coach for years?’
Anna looked to her. Perri looked at her almost with jealousy- a good jealousy though. Anna was surprised that she didn’t know that she was mainly a kiteboarder.
‘I’m a kiteboarder’ Anna said.
‘What?! You’re not actually a surfer?’ came Bec’s voice. Anna reluctantly looked up to Bec who looked at her almost in disgust at this piece of information.
Anna might as well explain…
‘I’ve been surfing for fun, but the competitions have been in kiteboarding’
Bec looked away from her.
‘So did you win any of the comps?’ asked Matt, the uncertain one.
‘A few’ It wasn’t exactly a lie… She had won a few comps… Okay, so it was more than a few. She was the junior world champion but she didn’t think that they needed to know that just yet.
‘So why the change?’ Matt asked, he seemed too curious about this, so she thought she better tell the truth- get it over and done with. All eyes were focused on Anna.
‘Solar Blue suggested it. They sponsored me on the kite circuit. They wanted to see if I could cross over to surfing.’
Bec’s harsh, aggressive voice struck again. ‘So when did you find out you were coming here?’
Anna tried to ignore the coldness in her voice.
‘About 6 months ago.’ She replied.
‘They had trials in Germany 6 months ago?’ Bec looked around to the others. Bec had it all wrong though.
‘There were no trials. Solar Blue just called and offered me their extra place.’
Just as she was about to be attacked from Bec again Jilly, the kind looking, older woman who had told her that she was cooking with Edge, interrupted with who was doing dishes. This came at a very convenient time.
Anna returned to eating as Heath was saying something about him going over to the hospital.
Anna went upstairs once she had finished her dinner. Bec and Perri had already decided that they were sharing a room which left Anna with a room to herself. It was big and had two single beds. She chose the softer one of the two. Jilly had given her funky coloured sheets and doona cover. She made her bed then looked out her window.
The view was gorgeous. The beautiful ocean was straight outside. Anna marvelled at it for a few minutes, this is what she would be waking up to every morning for the next year. Anna then started to unpack her suitcase properly.
She found her beloved iPod. She had put her headphones on and it started to play her German hip-hop. The thing that reminded her most of home. And it was good to hear her favourite music.
She had just about finished in hanging the last of her clothes when Perri walked in. Anna took out her headphones immediately.
‘Hey’ Anna said.
‘Hey’ Perri replied back. Anna was starting to put away her iPod as Perri sat down on the spare bed to watch Anna.
‘What were you listening to?’ Perri asked. Anna smiled meekly.
‘German hip-hop.’
Perri pulled a face and raised an eyebrow. Anna laughed.
‘Yeah, my friends in Germany think I’m a little weird too.’
That was true except for her best friend, well was best friend… She had met a good friend in different comps, which is very unusual as everyone usually looks out for themselves, but this girl was the kindest soul on earth Anna had ever met. In a comp over a 3 years ago, when Anna had started kiteboarding professionally she had met Blair. Before Anna was about to enter the water Blair had pointed out to her that one of her fins on Anna’s kiteboard was broken and Anna hadn’t even realised. Blair was in the same heat as Anna was, she was touched what she did. They soon became best friends even though Blair was never as good as Anna. Blair had died in a car accident over a year ago, before Anna’s kiteboarding accident… Blair was the one who had introduced her to German hip-hop. Anna missed her dearly.
Perri smiled. ‘Maybe we can get you into some good Aussie rock;
Anna chuckled ‘You can try.’ She sat down on her bed facing Perri.
‘Anyway, I just popped in to see how you’re doing’. Perri said.
‘Yeah, I'm okay. Just trying to get my head around being here’ Anna laughed. Perri’s eyes lit up as she said the last sentence.
‘Same! I still can’t believe I got in!’ Perri said. Anna’s smile became forced. A image of Bec appeared in her head- the expression of when she first arrived was clear in her head, the evils she was given.
‘PERRI!!!’ There was a shout from downstairs from Matt.
‘I’d better go’ Perri grimaced.
‘What do they want you for?’ Anna wondered out loud.
‘Oh, I'm on for drying the dishes. I was hoping that they would forget. I’ll see you soon.’ And with that Perri got up from the bed and headed downstairs to the kitchen.
Anna sat on her bed looking at the other bed, hoping that the other girl who would get in to be nice and friendly. Maybe as kind as Blair… She missed her like crazy. Her one true friend, who supported her, even when Blair didn’t make it to the kite circuit, had kept in close contact with her. Many phone calls and catch-ups in person had gone on for years and made Anna feel like she was on top of the world.
She decided to call it a night and got ready for bed. She had a bit of jetlag after all, even if it was only 7 o’clock. The irony being that as soon as her head hit the pillow all se could think about is how the others had treated her, except Perri she supposed…
So what do you think? Im still not sure what to call this tory so "Anna's Story" will do for now. ;)
OMG It's precious, you made my remmber every single details it's so cool! nd that really happened like that! exactly!
Anna! Perri was the only one who recevied her good.
xxx
lol! Thats cos I went through the first episode of the dvd and paused after everyone had said something (with the scenes with Anna in) so I could get every detail correct.
I made it so at least one of the kids were friendly to Anna.
Anyways Ive written a little bit more, not much at this stage but a bit to update it:
She tossed and turned for hours. It was one in the morning when she decided to go downstairs to see if a hot drink would help.
When she reached the bottom of the stairs she saw someone else must be hungry as the fridge door was open. It was Matt. She approached him when he had shut the fridge door, mouth full. He jumped and gave a muffled yell as he started to choke on what was one of the leftover burnt sausages. He rushed over to the sink, trying to cough up the remaining sausage. Anna slapped him on the back a few times to help.
Great, just her luck. Nothing is going right for her and now she is accidentally the cause of making one of her house mates choke.
‘I'm sorry. I didn’t mean to frighten you.’
She sighed as Matt was still recovering.
‘I'm not getting anything right, really.’
Matt coughed. ‘My fault. I cant believe I voluntary ate another one of those sausages…’
Anna sighed again. Matt wasn’t helping but now that he had finally recovered he peered at her with concern. Anna decided to get what was bothering off her chest.
‘I feel like I'm in the wrong place. Like it was a mistake to come here. But I don’t know why.’
Sympathy appeared in Matt’s eyes. He pondered a bit, about trying to explain what was going on.
‘Well… I think what's occurred here…’ He paused, trying to find the right words.
‘Wait, I’ve got a better idea. I’ll show you.’
He rushed upstairs. She followed him to the stairs. A little later he came back down with a video camera. She sat down on the stairs, near the bottom where Anna joined him.
‘This is a video that Heath took of Bec and Joe before they cancelled the heat.’
The video showed Simmo announcing Bec as the winner. She hugged Joe and pulled him towards the camera. She launched in to saying how Joe will win, he’s a shoo-in for getting into the academy.
Anna smiled at the clip as Matt paused it.
‘I don’t get it. What's this got to do with me?’ Was Matt winding her up?
Matt started to explain.
‘That guy Joe, Bec’s brother, he didn’t get in.’
‘Why?’ Anna asked. Matt continued.
‘They cancelled the heat because the spot had been given to someone else.’
Matt looked to her. Finally Anna realised why Bec had been so cold to her. It was her. Anna tried to explain to Matt that it wasn’t her fault.
‘They didn’t tell me I would be taking someone else’s place. Joe didn’t get in because of me?’ Anna said.
Matt nodded. Anna continued.
‘And Bec’s right. I didn’t even have to surf for it.’
She felt angry and upset. It wasn’t fair on her or the others in the academy. Matt could see the hurt on her face. He squeezed her shoulder.
‘Well, now you know. I'm going to go back to bed. See you in the morning.’
Anna nodded and Matt got up and climbed the rest of the stairs to reach his room.
Anna felt so hurt. At least she knew why Bec was being so mean to her.
She rose and walked back to her room.
‘What would Blair say to me if she knew?’ Thinking of Blair made a wave of grief rush over Anna. She entered her room and fell onto her bed. She didn’t bother stop the tears from running down her face, upset with her situation and the loss of her best friend.
It was 7 o’clock when Anna woke. Feeling that it was a miracle that she had actually got to sleep that night, she headed downstairs as her stomach was growling loudly. She was still feeling upset that Solar Blue had put her into this situation.
Some of the others were up too. Anna grabbed a bowl of cereal and started to eat, listening to the other’s conversations.
‘I had, like, 30 seconds of sleep and I feel brilliant’ said Perri as she sat down at the dinning table. Matt and Edge were already eating. And as for Heath, well, he was looking around for something to eat as Anna managed to get the last bowl of cereal. Bec wasn’t up yet.
‘Yeah, me too’ said Matt. ‘You know what the plan for today is?’ he asked.
‘I think it might be just getting settled in.’ said Edge with a mouth full of cereal.
Anna was standing behind the kitchen table, not wanting to join in. She felt like she didn’t deserve to be here.
‘Yeah, pinching ourselves to make sure it’s real. The usual dream-come-true kind of stuff’ said Perri.
‘You really didn’t think you’d get in?’ asked Matt
‘Most of the time I did. But at 3o’clock in the morning I’d wake up, sure I was going to stuff it up on the day’ said Perri.
Heath was still rummaging around the kitchen, looking for food. He passed Anna a few times in his mission to find some breakfast.
