How can you be an athiest and a Hindu?
Bharatvarsh - June 10, 2005 02:36 AM (GMT)
Well if u read up on philiosphies like Samkhya u would see that they have an atheistic view, here's some info:
"Classical Samkhya espouses an atheistic philosophical dualism , positing two fundamental principles as the source of all things."
http://www.kheper.net/topics/Samkhya/Samkhya.htmSmakhya is still considered part of the Hindu philosophy, so u can be an atheist and be a Hindu, the important thing is u have to be a seeker of truth. Veer Savarkar was an atheist/agnostic, even Buddha never said anything about God but many Hindus still believe him to be the 9th incarnation of Vishnu.

Thanks... never knew about all that, well I did know that Buddha was an athiest but I thought that because of that, Buddhism separated. Interesting to know that Hinduism's greatest champion was an athiest.

whats up moonchild
i see you've dropped the '666'...
Narasimham - July 4, 2005 05:51 PM (GMT)
Infact I use "666" only in the forums I dont get MoonChild ;) in ezboard, MoonChild was already taken, and hence my "reincarnation" as the Moon666Child.
I usually go by the name redenex. But in one of the forum (my first) thoiugh I registered as redenex, we had an option to change the display name. I chose MoonChild - thanks to Iron Maiden song - but the name caught on.

Welcome Arnab, you sound quite interesting, who would've thought we'd have a Muslim-Buddhist-Atheist-Hindu convert on the forum :o
It's ok not to know so much about your religion or be devouted, it doesn't take much knowledge for a Hindu to know their identity and be very proud of it, when you learned and understood the first couple facts of what Hindu Dharm is, that must be when the "miracle" hit u.. you can learn some things here and teach us also, but if you write articles for Hindu culture then u must know something right? I couldn't easily write an article... so what age did you move from Bangladesh?

Hello I am Arnab, from Toronto, Canada. I am a Hindu and a proud one but from philosophical sense. I am not that devoted Hindu. I am 19, and doing my pre-medical studies.
I also like web-designing and I have website with more than 1200 members.
Hinduism has an important relationship for me. I was born in Bangladesh and learned very little about Hinduism. In Bangladesh, Hinduism is not that encouraged in daily life. They make it feel that it is a dying religion. In addition, my parents made me believe that the only way the world would be better if we can put religion as separate from life as possible. Therefore, my understanding on Hinduism never grew that much.
However, as I started growing up, I found something was missing in my life. At first, I became a Muslim and then a Buddhist. After that an atheist. I stayed as an atheist for around 2 years. However, after that suddenly it was sort of a miracle but I came back to Hinduism. Now, I am a Hindu and write articles for Hinduism and Hindu civilization. I would like to see Hinduism thriving again like the past. |
Other than for the fact that you live in Toronto or was originally a muslim from Bangladesh... I am pretty much the exact in description. Including the premed, 19 years, former athiest... all of that.
Bharatvarsh - July 31, 2005 02:06 PM (GMT)
arnab u sound quite interesting, I shud have known u a little earlier, I too live in Toronto and cud have met u yesterday along with 2 other Hindus, one of them a Hindu activist from UK who was visiting Toronto. One of the things we discussed yesterday was the lack of proper hindu websites, a lot of hindus seem to have no idea abt webdesigning and stuff like that, I have been to sikh sites and they r excellent in appearance as well as in content (hindus shud learn something from them), so can u give a link to ur website that u mentioned in the last post, I just wanna take a look at it.
Dr J - July 31, 2005 04:40 PM (GMT)
jai sri krishna arnab
What uni do you go to?
You said u was a muslim convert for a while, i too thought islam was fascinating, it was jus so clearly set out, thats the most appealing thing about it, what made you leave it?

Yes, it's a religion of peace because it establishes peace through war and killing. Some of the verses, that made me scare was ================================================ |
I always questioned if the Quran really contained all this specific barbarism that I've heard from others, so one day at the library I rented a Quran published in Pakistan written in Arabic with English translation next to it, and then at the mall I bought another Quran to compare if the very same verses matched, to see if a western Quran would distort anything, so I sat down one night and read several verses from each chapter, not only was everything true, it was even more barbaric then I imagined, I suddenly REALLY understood why there was an Indian partition and so many other things! Even the spirituality of Islam is based on the material world!

Once we, the Hindus used to be the majority in East Bengal (Bangladesh). However, now our number is as low as 9%. Even during 1971, there were 30% Hindus but now there are only 9%. One can ask what has happened to this huge number of hindus in bangladesh. many of them are disoriented like my parents....but most were killed or forced to change religion etc. A systemetic genocide is taking place in bangladesh and noone gives a shit!
Bharatvarsh - August 1, 2005 12:19 PM (GMT)
Well in Bengal as a whole Hindus used to be the majority till 1881, it was only in the 1881 census that Muslims first became majority in Bengal, according the Jinnah's demand the whole Bengal shud have gone to pakistan but Hindu leaders like Savarkar managed to save the Hindu majority West Bengal while East Bengal went to Pakistan, also there is an area called Chittagong Hill tracts in Bangladesh, that area was 97% non muslim (mainly Buddhist since Chakma tribals r buddhists) but Nehru and Congress still gave that area to Pakistan.

Hello brothers and sisters. My name is Navin and I am glad to be part of this ongoing discussion of topics that really matter. I was born Hindu, but now have renounced any sort of religious label for myself. I believe the purpose of any true religion is to unite humanity. Yet it is often religion that divides us, cutting us into sects, and separating us from each other. It is not a coincidence that most of the violence on this planet is committed in the name of God. Look at Israel. Look at Kashmir. Look at Pres. Bush.
However, much powerful knowledge and wisdom has come to us through religion. Look at how many great sages and saints have come from the Hindu tradition. And the Buddhist, Christian (and yes even the MUSLIMS) have passed on to humanity many great truths.
Let's try to remeber this as we proceed.
peace,
Navin

I used to have your attitude, but times eventually change...
The problem is people's interpretation of religion to do it. And if one person follows a creed that preaches against another, you eventually start a chain reaction, which is what has happened in the world. Remember one bad applein a basket is enough to contaminate all the others.
