Two Friends In Love

I was 19 and I was at the movies with a guy who I was on a date with. His name was Jake and we'd gone out 3 times. I have pretty long light brown hair with blonde highlights and blue eyes. I'm really petite. Jake was really cute but I don't know he just wasn't right for me so I thought that was gonna be the last date. We were standing in line for popcorn and there was a really cute guy in front of us! He had blonde hair and blue eyes and was about average height. He looked and me and smiled and he also ordered everything just how I liked it... weird. Anyway then we went in to see the movie. It was called 'Attack of Rhode Island.' It was really dumb but Jake really wanted to see it. I saw the guy from the popcorn line in there too. And then walked in some girl who sat next to him and he put his arm around her... So obviously he was taken. Oh well. I was on a date- I should have been focusing on him but I couldn't stop staring at the other guy. I just got that feeling in the pit of my stomach when I saw him and that happens to me when I start to get a crush on someone.
"Hey Mallory doesn't this movie look awesome!"
"Yeah sure Jake. I really wanted to see the other movie you know."
"Well it just came out today though so I had to see it! You can pick next time I guess..."
"Ok." I didn't tell him there wasn't going to be a next time but he'd find out eventually... The movie started and Jake tried to kiss me. I pulled away. I whispered,
"Um Jake... I don't know about this. Your nice and all but I don't think we should go out anymore. I'm really sorry!"
"What? Why not?" He yelled and everyone looked at us.
"Umm wellll your just not my type... ok?"
"Whatever. I'm gonna go bye."
"Uh Jake, you're my ride."
"Oh well call someone else!" He stormed out. Everyone was still staring and I giggled. The movie was terrible so I walked out and called my friend. I was an actress and I've been on some tv shows and stuff like that but nothing too big but I lived in Cali so something big would probably come up eventually. While I was waiting for my friend the cute guy and his girlfriend came out.
"Man that movie sucks!" He said.
"Yeah can you take me home?" His girlfriend said.
"Yeah sure Krista."
"K, be right back I'm gonna use the bathroom."
"Ok." I started playing DDR in the game room and I saw him look over at me and then he walked over to me.
"Wow you're pretty good!" He said.
I smiled and said, "Thanks! It takes a lot of practice! Wanna play?"
"Yeah sure! I've never played before though so don't make fun of me!"
"Haha I'll try not to!" He was acctually pretty good- he got a B.
"Wow that was pretty good for never playing! I used to do terrible!"
"Really? Well thanks!"
"You know, you look pretty familiar... Have we met?"
"Umm well I was on American Idol last year... My name's Anthony Fedorov."
"Ohhh yeah I remember you! You're awesome! I'm Mallory." He shook my hand.
"Thanks! Did you vote for me?"
"Of course!"
"Oh cool!" I nodded.
"So you live in Cali now?"
"Yeah I moved here after the show." His girlfriend came back.
"Ok Anthony let's go!"
"Ok- I gotta go nice meeting you Mallory!"
"You too!" I wish I would have gotten to talk to him longer... I liked him a lot. Anthony and his girlfriend walked out- holding hands. Blech. Oh well I'd find a new boyfriend eventually... A week later I was at the mall shopping for clothes with my best friend Lindsay. We were in Abercrombie and I saw this guy there that looked oddly familiar from the back...
"Hey Lindsay I think I know that guy..."
"Really? Who is he?"
"I think its that guy I told you about from the movies, Anthony Fedorov."
"Yeah maybe." The guy turned around.
"Oh hey Mallory!"
"Hi Anthony! I was right Lindsay!"
"Heh yeah I heard my name. So do you shop here a lot?"
"Yeah it's pretty much all I wear!" Lindsay's phone rang.
"Hello? Ugh fine. Bye. Hey I gotta go it's my sister's birthday."
"Oh ok bye!"
"See ya later!"
Anthony said, "So is she like your best friend or something?"
"Yeah we've known each other forever!"
"That's cool. I should probably get going though I just came to the mall to buy my girlfriend a present."
"Oh... uh cool."
"Yeah our 2 year anniversary is today! I bought her this diamond necklace- it took me forver to save up for it!"
"Wow it's gorgeous!"
"Thanks do you think she'll like it?"
"Yeah she'll love it. So you must really like her huh?"
"She's great but uh... lately someone else has been on my mind..."
"Oh really? Do you think anything will happen?"
"Nah it'll probably blow over I barely know her."
"Oh ok. Well I'm gonna go home since my friend left. See ya around!"
"Wait- we should hang out sometime, can I have your number or something?"
"Yeah sure! Do you wanna go to the movies or something?" I said as I wrote down my number.
"Yeah or we could just hang out here!"
"Hmm ok I don't have anything else to do!" We were walking around and we passed a jewelery store.
Anthony said, "That's where I bought the necklace for Krista."
"Oh can we go in and look? I wanna look at something."
"Yeah sure." There was a really pretty white gold ring there.
I said, "Isn't it pretty? I've wanted it for so long but I've never had enough at one time to buy it!"
"Oh that sucks."
"Yeah. Oh well." We walked around the mall some more.
"Soo are you stilll dating that loud guy from the movies?"
"Hah nope I haven't heard from him since. Why?"
"Oh I was just wondering."
"Ok. Soo do you still like that girl that you barely know?"
"Welll I wanna get to know her a little more before I like break up with Krista or anything."
"Yeah I understand." Anthony glanced at his watch.
"Sorry I gotta go its getting late and I promised I'd meet my girlfriend for dinner."
"Oh ok I'll see ya later!"
"Bye!" I was upset that he had a girlfriend. He was really sweet and cute so of course he would but I got the impression that he liked me. So I thought maybe I had a chance. Later that night... Anthony and Krista were at a fancy french resteraunt for dinner.
"Krista I got you this." Anthony said as he gave her the necklace.
She smiled. "Oh my gosh I love it! Thank you!" She kissed him.
"Your welcome!"
"Anthony I got you a CD! I know it's not much but it's all I could afford."
"A CD? But I thoght you said you went on a shopping spree last week..."
"Well that's exactly why I couldn't afford anything!"
"Oh... so for our 2 year anniversary I get a CD. Well uh thanks I guess..."
"Mhhm. I love you Anthony."
"Yeah?"
"Of course!"
"Ok..." She sounded sincere but he wasn't too sure. Two days later... *Ring* *Ring* It was my cell phone. "Hello?"
"Hey this is Anthony." He said kinda nervously. "Oh hey! What's up?"
"Nothing much, uhm I was just calling to ask you if you were'nt too busy if you uh, maybe wanted to hang out with me again?" "Well I was gonna get my nails done... but it can wait!"
"You sure?"
"Yeah totally!"
"Ok great! Well um... what do you wanna do?"
"Hmm... well I guess we could go to the park!"
"Ok I'll meet you there!"
"K bye!"
"Bye!" I got to the park and I didn't see him so I went on the swings. I started thinking to myself. 'Is this a date or not? I mean I know he has a girlfriend but-' I stopped. Someone was pushing me. I jumped up and turned around. "Oh hi!" I said. It was Anthony.
"Hey- did I scare you?"
"Yes!" He laughed and sat down on the swing next to me.
He said, "Um I got you something." It was the ring from the mall. I gasped.
"Wow Anthony you didn't have to get me that!"
"It's ok I wanted to. I knew how much you wanted it and I had money left over from the necklace I gave Krista."
"Well thank you!"
"Your welcome!" We just kinda looked at each other for a little while. He leaned in a little.
I said, "Um Anthony, does your girlfriend know we're hanging out?"
"Well acctually no I haven't told her..." He paused and looked at me. "But I don't think it matters who I'm friends with. I mean even though your a girl... we trust each other you know?." I guess I was wrong. He seemed like he was in love with his girlfriend.
So I nodded and said said, "Right. I mean if we're just friends it shouldn't matter."
"Yeah. But you know if she met you she might be pretty jealous."
"Really? How come?"
"Because well... your so nice and um gorgeous." He said kinda nervously as he put his hand over his shoulder.
"Aww thank you! Your adorable! Your girfriend is really lucky to have you."
"You think so? She doesn't always act like she appreciates me..."
"Well she should!" He smiled. We had kinda an awkward silence and then I got up off the swing and said, "Well I'd better be going, I've got a date." He looked surprised.
"Oh you do?"
"Mhmm. I met him at an audition. His name's Chris."
"Oh well have fun!"
"Ok! Well um... bye!"
"See ya." He got up and came closer to me. It seemed like he wanted to kiss me but we just hugged. On my date... Chris took me to an italian resteraunt.
"Wow I love this place!" I said.
He smiled and said, "Good, I'm glad!" I looked him over. He had spiked up light brown hair, he was pretty tan and he was average height. So he was pretty hott. But all I could think about was Anthony... "So do you think you'll get the part?" He was asking about the tv show we auditioned for.
"Yeah I hope so! I think I did pretty good!"
"Yeah me too. Maybe we'll be working together!"
"Yeah that'd be cool!" We talked about what we've been in what we liked and stuff and I had fun.
Chris said, "So do you wanna go out again soon?" I thought about it real quick. "Um... yeah sure. That'd be great!"
"Ok I'll call you!"
"Ok bye Chris!" So over the next couple of months I kept going out with Chris. He was great and all, and I really tried to like him, but I just couldn't get over Anthony. I never got the feeling that I had when I was with or saw Chris that I had when I saw or was with Anthony, I didn't think about him as much as I thought about Anthony, we didn't have as much in common, and he didn't make me smile like he did. There was much more than that too and a lot that couldn't even be explained. I still hung out with Anthony as friends even though he had a girlfriend. I don't even know if he ever told her we were friends. But if they were still going out it was obvious he wanted to be with her. And that really hurt me to know that. But I still saw what I saw in the beginning. He acted like he liked me more than a friend and he always had. He would still get nervous to call me and things like that. But I guess that was just him. But I still kept falling more in love every single day. I couldn't just keep loving someone that was in love with someone else. So after a lot of thinking I decided that the only way to get over him was to stop seeing him. As much as I hated the idea and as much as it hurt... I just had to. But I couldn't. Everytime I tried to tell him I just couldn't. He'd look at me and I'd just fall in love again. But I knew what I had to do... Anthony was at Irina's house. He was sitting on her couch while she was going through some things on the floor.
Anthony sighed and said, "Krista, there's something I think you should know." She looked up at him.
"What is it?" He fiddled with his hands.
"Well I don't really know how to say this... but I have this friend that I've been hanging out with for a while. But she's just a friend and nothing else! I just wanted to let you know because I don't like keeping things hidden..." She stared at him for a minute.
"I'm not the type to jump to conclusions but the way you said that... exactly how long did you say you've been hanging out with her?"
"Umm a couple of months or so..."
"Yeah... and uh your sure you don't like her anything more than a friend. At all. Right?"
"Yea exactly there's nothing there."
She thought for a minute and said, "Ok honey I believe you because I trust that you would never cheat on me. But why didn't you tell me earlier?"
"Well I don't know I just never really thought about it."
"All right... I love you."
"I love you too." But he didn't really mean it. He lied right to her face and he wasn't someone who would normally do something like this. But he wasn't really cheating on Krista. He was just in love with someone else and that caused him to do something he wouldn't normally do. But he didn't wanna let Krista go because he didn't know what else to do. The next day... *Ring* *Ring* "Hello?" Anthony said as he answered the phone.
"Hey it's me- can you come over, we kinda need to talk." I said.
"Yeah sure I'll be right there." At my house... I said, "Hey Anthony- sit down." We sat on my couch.
"Ok what did you wanna talk to me about?"
"Well... this is gonna be really hard for me to say. But Chris told me he loved me yesterday." He looked kinda upset.
"Really? Oh. That's uh great! Yeah." He said.
"Yeah. But well uh... I don't think we can be friends anymore." His face fell and he looked shocked.
"I don't understand. Why not?"
"Well I know that you said that Krista doesn't mind us being friends... but Chris does." Honestly Chris didn't say that. I was just using that as my excuse not to see him anymore. I couldn't tell him how I felt; that would only make things worse. Anthony sighed.
"Ok I get that. You have him and you guys are in love so you don't need me around anymore." I shook my head.
"No that's not it at all! He just doesn't feel comfortable that we're so close! That's all- really! If he didn't mind it would be fine... but he's important to me." It was somewhat true. Chris did say he wasn't comfortable with it but he didn't wanna act controlling over my friends.
Anthony said, "Ok. That's ok really. I mean I have other people to hang out with. I have other friends, I'll be fine." I was close to tears. "I think I'm gonna get going. See ya around I guess."
"Ok bye Anthony."
I hugged him before he left. He had a couple tears in his eyes. I loved how it felt when he touched me... I got butterflies and he made me feel a little hot. Just being around him still gave me butterflies. But this was the end. Later that night... It was late and I couldn't sleep. I kept thinking about what happened and decided I just had to tell him how I felt. I was going to do it tomorrow. It was raining and all of a sudden I heard something at my window. I got up out of bed and went to go see what it was. Someone was throwing little rocks at the window and I opened it.
"Mallory!" They yelled. "It's me Anthony can you let me in? Your doorbell doesn't work!"
"Oh sorry! Yeah I'll be right there come around to the front. I ran downstairs and opened the door. He looked pretty wet since it was raining hard. "Hey come inside. What's wrong?" He walked in. "Ok um... there's something I need to tell you, and I think you should sit down."
"Ok. There's something I need to tell you too." We sat down on my couch. I looked at him and said, "What is it?"
He stared at me. "Um this is kinda hard for me to say. But I couldn't sleep and I couldn't just stop talking to you without letting you know how... how I feel about you." He paused and looked me in the eyes and held my hands and said, "I- I love you Mallory. I'm in love with you and I always have been. I know this sounds kinda dumb but ever since I saw you I've felt this way; and I know I haven't felt exactly this way about any girl ever before." I just looked at him because I felt shocked. I thought all along that he loved Krista.
I stopped staring and smiled at him and I said, "Anthony, I'm in love with you too!"
"You are?!"
"Yes! And it doesn't sound dumb at all! I've felt the same way too- you know since I saw you. And I know that I've never felt exactly this way about a guy before and I was going to tell you tomorrow. I- I couldn't sleep either. And Chris didn't tell me to do that... I just didn't think I could go on loving someone who had a girlfriend you know?"
"Oh... I was just so heartbroken that you were in love with Chris. But your really not... right?"
"No not at all! And Krista...?"
"Nope."
We looked at each other and came in closer and we finally kissed. I put my arms around his neck and he touched my face. It was just an innocent kiss at first but then it deepend. I can't even describe how it felt. But when you kiss someone you love everything else just seems to dissappear.
I said, "I've been waiting for that for so long."
"Me too." He smiled and kissed me again.
"Anthony wait- we're going to have to break up-" He cut me off.
"Huh? Why?!"
"Noo you didn't let me finish! I was gonna say with Krista and Chris..."
"Oh heh yeah right." I giggled.
"You're so cute."
"Ok hold on I'll call Krista." *Ring* *Ring*
"Hello?"
"Hi Irina it's Anthony."
"Hey what's up? It's... 3 AM."
"Well... I'm really sorry about this... and that I'm doing it over the phone... but the thing is... I- I can't see you anymore." "What?! Why not?!"
"Well remember that friend I told you about?"
"...Yeah?"
"Well the thing is I'm kinda in love with her. I didn't know what was going on... so I didn't tell you. And well... it turns out she loves me too... I know that it was wrong not to tell you and I'm sorry to do this to you."
She sniffled. "Um wow. I can't believe you would do that to me."
"I know I'm really sorry! But I just don't love you anymore... and I never loved you like I love her. Besides, you never acted like you appreciated me. Sorry but this is it. It's over."
"Fine. Thanks for waking me up. Goodbye Anthony. I hope your happy." She hung up.
"How'd she take it?" I asked.
"Ehh not so good. But hey she'll be ok right?"
"Well I guess I'll call Chris now."
*Ring* *Ring*
"Mallory what's wrong? It's 3 AM!"
"I know Chris sorry. But I have to tell you something. This can't really wait any longer... but we have to break up."
"Ugh I knew things were bad when you didn't say you loved me back... Is it that guy? The one your friends with!"
"Acctually... it is. I am so sorry! I really hate doing this I don't like to make people upset... but I've been in love with him for a long time... and he just told me he loved me. I'm really sorry I led you on but I just I don't know what else to say." He sighed.
"Well have fun with him that's all I've got to say! I'm going back to bed. Bye." He hung up.
I turned to Anthony and said, "He didn't take it well either. But I think he'll be ok."
"Ok great." He took my hands and kissed me. "I love you so much." He said.
"I love you too." So we were a couple for the next 3 years. During that time I become a pretty big movie star and he became a bigger singer. He went on tour and I went to movie shoots but... we made it work. On our 3 year anniversary he took me back to the same movie theatre where we met. "Anthony you never told me what we were seeing!" I said.
He laughed. "I know you'll find out!" He had paid for them to show 'Attack of Rhode Island' for a private screeing.
We walked in and I said, "Hmm no one's here."
"Yep!" We sat in the back. The movie started.
I said, "Uhh... Attack of Rhode Island? Did you like arrange this for us?" "Heh yeah. I know the movie sucks but hey it brings back memories right?"
"Mhmm." I kissed him. He stood up and then got down on one knee and took out a small box from his pocket. "Oh my gosh!" I said. He opened the box and it had a beautiful diamond ring in it.
"Mallory- I love you so much and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?" I shook my head yes. "Anthony of course I will! I love you!" He put the ring on my finger. So 6 months later... My wedding was incredible. It was fancy, expensive, tropical, and everything I had ever wanted and I had everything I had ever wanted in a guy right with me. The party and the honeymoon to Hawaii were amazing and they were the best time ever! And well... we lived happily ever after in California!
