| I thought a good way to wrap up would be to compare all the seasons thus far. I will also preview season five, which I am hoping is the best yet. The biggest changes to AI over the years have been in the format. I actually liked the season one format best of having a top 30, dividing the contestants into 3 groups of ten, and then having America vote through the top 3 in each group. Voting through only 2 contestants from each group seemed pointless because usually the other high finishers were invited back for the Wild Card. Speaking of that, I miss the Wild Card! I hated when there were four Wild Cards, but I think having a Wild Card contestant added to the drama of the show. I do like having a top 12 though so if the producers could devise a plan that would allow America to vote through 3 contestants per week and then end with one Wild Card to make a top 12, that would be perfect in my world. I absolutely hated how there was only a top 24 last year. And even more than that, I hated how the guys and girls were divided and voted on separately. Having a top 12 of 6 guys and 6 girls is foolish to me. A more talented person shouldn't be cut from the competition simply because of their gender. Unfortunately, this format is being kept for season five.... |

| I have a lot of hopes and wishes for this season's American Idol. I would love to see a great male pop star come from the show. While Clay, Ruben and Bo have had their successes, none can really be defined as a pop star. I would love to see someone like a Justin Timberlake or an Usher just blow America away. Someone with a great voice, who's a great performer and who can entertain and dance as well. |
