Ace Young, “That’s All”

Jenn: I love this song but hated this arrangement. It was so smooth jazz, something I would turn off if it came on the radio. Ace sounded okay; I thought he sounded better in the rehearsal on the video. Definitely not one of the better performances this week. Ace should have had this week in the bag, but I think the accompaniment overshadowed him. He’s in trouble. I’m going to completely sidestep the topic of his hair and clothing because I already don’t feel well and I don’t want to be up sick all night.

Sandy: Whoa. The slicked-back look didn’t work for Ace at all. And he didn’t sound great either. He really needed to bring it this week after some shaky performances and the great job the first group of performers did this week. He didn’t. He should be worried.

Tyler: Does anyone else think he looks like Project Runway's Robert Plotkin this week? Even more troubling, who is more talented? Reality show comparisons aside (for now), I have to agree with Simon's comments. It wasn't bad at all, but considering everyone else's awesomeness (except Kellie, of course), it wasn't great either. So far, Ace is the only person to completely lose my attention. He's in trouble. Vocals: 20. Performance: 10. Other: 5. Total: 35.

David: God, Ace’s hair looked bad. He just needed a hairnet and he could have been washing dishes in a diner. It distracted me so much that I missed the first part of his performance. When I started paying attention, I wasn’t impressed. It was okay, but simply could not compare to most of the other performances this week. I’d put it as better than Kellie’s, but, well, that’s all.

Bruce: How ironic. One week after a performance that should have sent him home in shame Ace turns in the performance of his Idol career. On the negative side, I’m so sick of his falsetto that I’d pay good money to see Frankie Valli walk out on the Idol stage and hold Ace at gunpoint until Mr. Young swears to never use it again. But even with the Samurai Honey Bun Hairdo, Ace did one heck of a job. 8

Final thoughts:

Jenn: I’m not naïve enough to put Taylor in the bottom three, though I think he should be there. Ace will be, because eventually he has to go and people are just really sick of him. Paris has been slipping, and though she was great this week, I’m not sure she has the fan base the others do that will keep her around. She’ll probably be the first sent back safe. Sadly, my boy Elliot will probably be in the bottom three as well, and I think this will be his week to go home. He’s been at the bottom of the barrel for a while now, and unfortunately, my love for him just can’t keep him in this. Like Simon said, personality is very important right now, and though Elliot has personality, the other singers on this show overshadow him. That’s going to be his downfall, if not this week, then eventually.

Sandy: Who knew Rod Stewart was so funny?! And how cute is his baby? What a great week! I had no trouble picking my bottom three. The first four performers nailed it, the last three, not so much. So Kellie, Ace, and Katharine will be the bottom three with Ace FINALLY singing us out at the bottom of the show. Exit, Stage Right. Please. I’ll be back next week! Ciao!

Tyler: This was a FANTASTIC night for everyone. Except for someone in particular, of course. If there was any justice in the world, Kellie Pickler would be going home. Yet as we all know, justice is blind. Or is it deaf, in this case? Since she won't make the bottom tomorrow, I won't consider her. Besides her, Ace was the weakest easily. Elliott doesn't have the fanbase or the x-factor to keep him out of the danger zone. I believe the Chris fanbase is starting to fade a little, and his performance this week, while vocally solid, was overshadowed by almost all the others. I predict an ACE bottom three: Ace-Chris-Elliott. I will also predict that this will be the uber-shock of the season and say Chris is heading home.

David: In recent weeks, so many performers have done poorly that it’s been tough to predict who would be in the bottom three. This week was exactly the opposite – so many did well that I’m really not sure who will end up at the bottom. If voting were based solely on this week’s performances, Kellie would be going home. However, I think that’s very unlikely – though it’s her best chance to be in the bottom three. Ace has been on his way out the door, and I don’t believe his performance this week was enough to save him. And who else will join them at the bottom? If I had to guess, I’d say Elliott – not because of any lack of ability, but because I think his fan base just won’t be up to the challenge.

Bruce: My first brush with Rod Stewart’s music came when he was singing one hit wonders like “In a Broken Dream” and grinding along with the Small Faces on songs like “(I know) I’m Losing You.” It’s hard for me to watch him prostitute himself into his golden years with these collections of American Chestnut Standards. But something about these songs brought out the best – or at least the desire for the best – out of this season’s contenders and this was the best Idol performance night in some time. It took these singers to new levels and the one bad stumble of the night left the singer disappointed that she couldn’t soar with the others. Bravo. I do believe that Kellie will appear in the Bottom 3 because of her faltering performance, but I think her honesty will garner enough votes that her stay at center stage will be very brief. I also don’t think I’m the only one who Elliott will have trouble connecting with this week and I fear he’ll be at the bottom once again. But despite an impressive performance, I think this will be the week the backlash of his horrible performance during Queen week will spell the end for Ace Young who will no doubt have an even deeper understanding of “That’s All” as he sings the words over the credits.

Conclusions: While the bottom three is a clear majority for our judges – they’re sure that Ace, Elliot, and Kellie will be gracing center stage – the loser is not as easy to predict. They’re split between Elliot and Ace (with a dark horse shocker vote for Chris thrown in). Who will it be? We’ll all find out who goes on Wednesday, but until then, keep it locked on RealityNewsOnline and FoxesOnIdol for all the latest!

OMG, I have playing the download of "Let's All" just about all day. I love the way he captured this song. It was his moment. Forget about the "waiter" look with the slicked back hair. He was really good. I still love my Ace with his long locks. I voted like crazy last night, could not get through someitmes and hope that is a good sign.
Taylor creeps me out.
Elliot has not stage precence but a nice "recording" voice.
Like Kelley but last night did not do it.

I think Paris, Ace and Kelley will be in the bottom three tonight, just hope he does not go home yet.

Do not think he will win (sorry) because there is just too much jealousy over his good looks. It should not matter but I belong to another forum and they are ALL dissing him. Seems that Taylor is the favorite, sure do not know why!!!!!!!!

Anyway, I sure hope Ace has a career , and I will follow him!!!!!!

Jean

I will be a nervous wreck tonight. but just think he will be on tour for awhile and we might be able to see him and someone just might discover him during that time.
