LINKAce Young says he’s singing “That’s All,” a fun, playful song. He was worried at the beginning at how Rod Stewart would react to him and kept looking to him for approval. He was amazed when Rod said he was “absolutely brilliant.” Ace is thrilled.
Randy: He likes the vibe of his suit and hair. There was a problem in the bridge, but he worked it out. Randy would have loved to hear more of Ace’s falsetto.
Paula: Paula agrees, sees a whole new Ace. The contestants might feel it’s a weird night, but it’s magical. He did great.
Simon: “It wasn’t bad!” Ace gives a great big cheer. It was a little nasal in the beginning, but it was charming. “Thank you, Simon!” Ace shouts.
Betsy: Ace looks so different with his hair back and in a suit. His voice sounds better than it has in weeks. He really seems comfortable with the song. And as always, the high notes are great. I think Ace really needed a good performance tonight, and he delivered.
Ryan worries that the hairstyle hurts. Ace does have his hair pulled back pretty severely! Ace assures us that he didn’t cut it. He’s going to replay Simon’s comments in his head all night.
The contestants are hard to rank tonight, but I’ll do my best.
Katharine
Elliott
Chris
Taylor
Ace
Paris
Kellie
I think Ace and Paris will be in the bottom three. They both did a good job, but just weren’t as memorable as some of the others. Although Kellie gave what was unmistakably the worst performance of the night, she will garner some serious sympathy. So who else will be in the bottom three? I guess I’ll say Elliott, though he doesn’t deserve it. Somebody’s got to be there, and with so many good singers left, the remaining eliminations are going to be tough. Ace has been teetering on the edge for too long and will be going home.
