Ace Young intends to show “more of a rock edge” by singing Train’s “Drops of Jupiter.”

Randy: What’s going on tonight with these song choices? This wasn’t a good song, and Ace didn’t sing it well.

Paula: She’ll be less harsh than Randy. It was refreshing after the last two performances, but it wasn’t a great choice for her. She asks if the scar Ace showed during his performance was real. He says it was, and Paula says he’ll have to tell her later how he got it.

Simon: Simon reminds Paula, without using the words “Corey Clark” that maybe she shouldn’t hit on the contestants. This week’s theme gave the contestants a chance to prove that they’re every bit as good as current artists, but this was neither a great nor memorable vocal. It was “quite karaoke, actually.” Randy agrees.

Betsy: I didn’t think this was a total rip-off of the original. Ace sounded, I don’t know, a little softer. Still, while his voice sounded just fine, like Kellie, he didn’t excite me.

Ryan asks Ace if he is surprised by the judges’ feedback. Ace says that he likes the song, then tells us that he got his scar playing basketball. He needs to make up a sexier story about it!
