It was boys' night on "American Idol" and there were quite a few decent showings and some great ones. AEI has to admit that Ryan Seacrest is doing a very good job keeping Simon honest by challenging the sometimes bitter, but usually right on, host.

The very best group:
Though Taylor Hicks doesn't fit the Idol look, he sure as heck can sing and his love for music and life just shines through. Despite looking like he's 40, he'll get a lot of vote just for his enthusiasm.

Ace Young seemed very nervous and in a nice way, shy. He delivered singing "Father Figure" and as Paula said, a lot of girls she knows -- and a lot of guys she knows -- will vote for him because he has great eyes.

Elliott Yamin's look is a bit distracting -- looks like he just got a beat-down -- but when it comes to singing, he's a natural.
