If Idol history has told us anything, the first week of the Top 12 is full of surprises. All that you believed to be true is suddenly challenged… unless, you are hip to the game.
See why Ace and Lisa shouldn’t “worry ‘bout a thing.” And, see which Idol will fall next!
The emails I get are shocked – shocked, I say – at the bottom three. Not so much about Melissa McGhee, who just didn’t measure up to the others.
But, what was surprising was to see Ace Young and Lisa Tucker standing there next to her. The answer for Ace is simple – stop trying to dance and sing at the same time. There are seasoned, veteran performers who can’t do it. Ace tries to do it while singing challenging songs, to boot! To make matters worse, he sang first. In four of the last five weeks, the male who sang first was sent home! For the record, he nailed Michael Jackson’s “Butterflies.” The bitching I’ve been hearing is from people who begrudgingly have to admit they don’t know the song. So, how are they judging it? Beyond me. Ace has talent. A lot of it. I think he just got a wake-up call. Ace, if you can hear me, stand still. So, how did Ace and Lisa get there? The best I can think is that their fanbases got a bit lazy. Ace looked like a million bucks. He didn’t sing entirely on key, but he does have performance quality. Selling it like that can make up for a few bum notes. Say he already had an album and that performance was on the Grammys – no one would have batted a lash. Lisa looked like a young star on stage, not a note out of place. Her choreography got a wee bit clumsy, but that’s not criminal (like, snapping at Simon, for example, Kevin). Lisa’s fans, I think, were basking in the glory of their girl stepping it up and figuring she was safe.
Never. Ever. Assume your favorite is safe. Ever.
This week, I think the fanbases will wake up and rescue Ace and Lisa, and they won’t be anywhere near the bottom three. I still see trouble ahead for Kevin Covais. He had to sit next to Ace, and have Ryan basically smirk that Kevin was better than Ace! There will be bitterness for that. And, the whole sex symbol thing has gotten a bit tiresome. As tiresome as that chicken-y dancing he did to the rhythm of the great Stevie Wonder.
So, I’m saying bottom three will be Kevin, Bucky, and Kellie. And, to the surprise of many, I think Kellie will be the one leaving. The other girls are leaving her in the dust. No amount of mispronounced sal-mon will save her. And, if she truly is pulling a routine, I’m disgusted. She can’t leave fast enough.
