Dressed in Virginia Tech colors, the singer from Richmond took time to say hello to his mom and cousins in the crowd, then plugged his Oct. 8 appearance at the Virginia State Fair. Moments later, he was joined by fellow Idols Ace Young, Bucky Covington and Chris Daughtry for a version of the Guns N' Roses favorite "Patience."

The quartet's interpretation of the song was a big hit with the mostly female crowd. Throughout the tune, there were smiles on stage and ecstatic screams in the audience.

At times during Friday's show, it did seem that "Idol" loyalists were as enamored with the physical as much as the musical attributes of the performers. Ace Young got as big a round of applause for taking off his sports coat as he did for singing George Michael's "Father Figure."

There were rumors that "American Idol" contestants lip-synched at Friday show.

That didn't seem likely considering Taylor Hick's musically lackluster performance. His singing was largely drowned out by the band, but nobody seemed to mind.

:hand: Elliott, we're not all Virginia Tech fans here in Virginia, but I still love you.

Wish I could have been there but I was out of state..

And Ace. What can I say about those arms? :fan:
