As the fifth season of American Idol gets underway, out come the freaks, weirdoes and unusual wannabe singers.

It takes a lot of guts to get up on national television trying to show the world you should be the next singing superstar, especially when you sound like a frog choking on a cricket.

Some of these contestants know they can’t sing, but want to be on TV for the sake of being there. Others, really think they have been blessed with a God-given talent and stubbornly persist they’ve got what it takes to make it in the world of music.

Amongst the endless list of horrible singers, the sun did shine bright during last night’s episode as a few diamonds in the rough were discovered.

The swooners were also out on the prowl, as Brett “Ace” Young, 24, was also handed a gold ticket to Hollwood thanks to his sweet sounding version of Westlife’s Swear It Again. Though he wasn’t the greatest of singers, Young had great control and knows how to stay within his range.
